Well they better sign him to a decent deal or he walks this year, and we get nothing for him. Actually they could get the same for Chuba and let it be known that Dowdle is our #1 back. I like him but I doubt he will be here next year.

we would be fools to give rico a deal, but then again we are the panthers

They might as well trade him.  Canales is being stubborn and not allowing Rico to do his thing.  It's the same reason he left Dallas.

Someone needs to smack the crap out of Canales and get him to realize Rico is #1 not 1a or 1b.

I would trade Canales before Rico. One of them is good at their job and one isn’t.

I don’t really know what happened but Chuba looks awful this year. He ran with a lot more aggression and decisiveness last year. He’s looked sluggish, even pre injury.

What Canales is doing is coaching malpractice. I do not care you paid Chuba 8 mil a year. You play the best players, period. Especially after Rico came in and absolutely dominated. And has continued to look not just better, but look like the FAR better player.

You play the damn game to win. You don’t find a player like Rico and trade them for nothing. Playing the damn draft pick trading card game has destroyed this team.

Canales = neutered

Rico has been an unstoppable force exceeding all expectations.  Hubbard hasn't been all that good this year.

That being said... Hubbard will still be here next year. Dowdle is on a 1 year contract. We can't have 2 highly paid backs and dowdle will get paid. We still have Etienne. Brooks should be back next year. We aren't going to the superbowl this year. Dowdles trade value won't get higher.

If we can get a mid round pick I say do it.

According to the press conference today it sounds like Rico is going to be the RB1

See, Canales worried about feelings when the players know the deal.
I don’t care that much because we weren’t winning anything this year anyway but it hurt us for two games before figuring out what he was supposed to do in response to Rico being dominant.

Hope he learns something from this. You play the best players.  Not your favorite players.

Why do you need a leadership conference to state the obvious? Can't make a decision in game because we have to hold a conference to decide what's the right move. Come on man.

Canales worried he'll make the wrong move and lose the locker room.

Imagine being a headcoach in the NFL and need Christian Rozeboom to sign off on your roster moves.

Yeah, I had a feeling it was about Chuba being a Captain. Needed it to be obvious to everybody even Chuba.

Not endorsing it just thinking of the why. It sounds like at least it’s done

The former manager in me wants to think that Canales was allowing Chubba the opportunity to show he is still the lead back when he recovered before making the switch. But I cannot give him that leeway as he's shown too many times he doesn't think that way.

There was really no need to pay Chuba all that money when backs like Dowdle were on the market in the first place.

After we traded down to draft Brooks in the second and then just before we used a fourth rounder to draft Etienne. For every smart roster move, the Panthers have two stupid ones.

So now yet again we’re playing the guy we got for nothing and sitting the guy with the contract.

Hope they finally figure out to not pay a RB.

Just keep collecting them unless you find yourselves a Gibbs or Jacobs. Otherwise, don’t waste dough on the position.

    • An interesting wrinkle to catchable balls.. Bryce has in fact jumped to #2 in deep-ball catchable rate, but is still #31 overall in pressure catchable ball rate, #23 in clean pocket catchable ball rate, and #32 in blitzed catchable ball rate. No matter the depth of field.  Overall.  #28 in clean pocket completion %. McMillan is also low as he's ranked #73 in rankable receivers in overall catchable balls...and he takes up a 26% team target share.  Now here's the interesting note - McMillan's target share jumps crazy to 51.6% of our deep balls  (Where Bryce's rate boosts to #2).  It's telling me they do have a bit of a connection developing for the deeper throws.  That seems just like a mutually beneficial situation happening.  Good.   Next step is you look at the volume, and yep, he's throwing likes a half of the classified deep balls as others.  Sooooo...a stretch of deep completions bumps him up more impact-fully than others.  Not discounting anything, there's progress, improvement on the deep ball, just good to know that context.  Buuuut as noted, Bryce's rate is consistently still league floor for everything except deep ball where McMillan has over half the team targets.  So he's improved with Tmac, which has bumped up his deep ball game.  There's till big issues is his intermediate game and play outside against zone defense - that's the same/has never improved, always around #25-32 since year 1.   So time to maintain the deep rhythm and keep proving more people wrong.  Would be fun to see improvement and more wins.
    • He's going to get more and more beat up until he's out. He's playing hurt
    • Maybe by now he’s learned a bit to not meddle but he absolutely was not an average owner in the pre draft process with Bryce. He and Nicole were wayyy too hands on and meddling more than anyone except Jerry jones
