QB 2026 (For the Young Haters)

Recommended Posts

I think it’s time we ditch the term “Bryce haters” and replace it with “fans who expect more from the quarterback position than we’re getting”. I know it doesn’t roll off the tongue as well, but it’s more appropriate.

We are uniquely able to enjoy and appreciate wins while, stay with me here, realizing that Bryce Young is only able to win when other forces (running game, defense) does just enough to offset his short comings. I said short comings lol.  We’re talking consistent low passing yards and yards per attempt, costly red zone turnovers, having to jump to throw a pass, dirt balls when the first read is covered, etc.

I like Bryce Young, but we can and should expect way more from an NFL quarterback.

Richardson? The man is another permanent IR list player.  Can't play QB if he can't stay on the field.

Potentially. Navigating the plan for QB position for 2026 without knowing what the rest of our season holds is a stretch of an idea anyway. AR has the physical tools, the anti Bryce in that regard. There is no “sounds good” option until we draft our guy. All the good teams drafted their QBs sans the Rams and Lions that swapped for each other.

This.

If we don't get real fuggin' honest with ourselves real fuggin' soon, we're gonna end up like Miami with Tua, paying franchise-crippling money and inexorably stuck with a guy who has "shown flashes" but has serious limitations.

Bryce hasn’t played well enough to justify that sort of extension. If the organization wants to roll with him at QB moving forward, any extension they offer should be commensurate with his play. For “passable” QB play (however you want to define that…I use the term generally to mean that he’s a game manager that you can win with if you build the rest of the team right but that he’s going to limit your ceiling and potentially lose you some games here and there; I do not think he‘s “the guy.”), the going rate is going to be a lot lower. Something more in the 3 years 45 million range. And if Young thinks he can get more elsewhere, then he’s free to try to do so.

Whether that would be an OK decision depends entirely on the answer to the premise of this thread. Do you think you can meaningfully improve on Young? If the answer is no, whether yet be due to lack of attractive options in the draft or free agency and no one willing to trade a good QB for a decent price, then I don’t have a problem with rolling with Bryce (sans 5th year extension and/or with a reasonable contract) and taking some late in the draft flyers and exploring worse options (but better than Dalton) in free agency.  Paying less for a QB does allow for the flexibility to build strength elsewhere on the roster, and then you hope you can upgrade from Bryce later.

Bring in Trey Lance to compete. Draft a mid to late guy as QB3 if the value is right.

This is the way. Especially if they insist on keeping Bryce. If they don't keep Bryce, Lance, and older vet, and maybe a higher draft pick can compete.

I really think we are a QB away from being able to rise above .500 RonFox-ball offensively.

You're missing a really key factor here. That factor being baseline talent. Josh Allen is as physically talented at the QB position as it gets. Bryce is on the opposite end of the spectrum. This is why coaches and GMs are willing to roll the dice on raw talent. Every now and then you get Josh Allen. You usually get Anthony Richardson, but as the old saying goes you can't coach height/speed/arm strength, etc. You might be able to coach up raw talent but if a guy doesn't have the prerequisite physical talent there's nothing you can do about that. It just is what it is.

don't disagree but they took a chance on Allen, and Allen worked to become the talent he is today. No Young is not Allen and never will be, but he is better than Dalton and we can design plays, so Young has better vision on who he is throwing to. DC has made Young a better QB in just the last year and half. Next year he will be better. Great no. Better yes.

stomping your feet and screaming "well who then?!" misses the point that literally any qb in the league could do what bryce does. he can't do a thing better than anyone else. there are lots of things he can't do that for anyone else in the league are prerequisites.

im fine with a qb that gives slightly better than young who can threaten the entire field which is literally anyone. selling out on defense and running with competence at QB gets you the playoffs which would be a massive step for this franchise.

Hopefully he will be slightly better ass on another team

The number QBs that are out of eligible years is pretty skimpy.  Don't expect a deep class as most will go back to school that can, especially the top prospects.  Right now you have a decent group of second round guys and some prospects early day 3.  I suspect there will be some guys overvalued that will go in round one because to the lack of top prospects.

well we better not win any more game this year, but I doubt we get a QB who will dislodge Young till his 5th year is up. He has given Tepper enough hope to keep him there unless we find a Dart like NY Giants did in last years draft.

Though so. It would be interesting.

Given how strongly Young is hated around here with the fact Howell local, I bet he could play like crap and everyone would still absolutely love him. lol

Everyone is like 3 Tar Heel fans.
