Evero is growing on me as DC

There can be multiple truths simultaneously.

Evero and the defense have undoubtedly been a reinvigorated force and it has been a collaborative improvement no doubt.

However there have been instances where he had fueled criticism of his scheme and his playcalls. But that has happened with all of our former defensive coordinators even ones who are highly regarded in franchise history.

And there is also the elephant in the room which is the salary cap allocation to his side of the ball which is bottom 5 in the league for the year. There's only so much you can realistically expect from any coordinator with that circumstance. And right now they are certainly overachieving which is a great sign for the culture we're trying to build here.

All that being said though. Evero. Much like Canales and our starting QB. Still has to get out there and establish some sustained success more than one or two games at a time. Finishing the season strong is what we need to see.

And, does he want to return here after we didn't allow him to interview with the Rams?

This will actually be one of the most interesting offseason storylines for us.

He gone.

I’ve grown into an Evero fan, and hope he stays.

I have always liked Evero.

you give this guy some actual talent on defense & this would be one of the best defenses in the NFL

Honestly, the biggest issue I have with him is that he hasn't seemed to have been a guy that elevates a defense, even going back to Denver.

So, if I always have to assemble an elite defense to make him have elite results....is he actually a great defensive coach?

Where is this elite defense?
It goes like it went early every year because preseason and time in pads is so inadequate for training guys in these situations, when there is a lot of turnover and you have some young guys.

They have played pretty well since Buffalo overall, and they are definitely not elite. DB is elite. Horn can be. Is at times. There isn’t that much past those guys.

I am not trying to wave the flag for him, but he has gotten scraps to work with. Whoever was DC I’d feel the same about as far as what he has had to work with.
That DJ Johnson deal was a bad look for him.

Ummm...WTF is happening in this thread.  how bout no.  I was someone who supported Eviro last year and wanted him back this year, but his weak bullshit soft zone is the most fuging frustrating thing ever especially since he REFUSES to let Horn travel with the best threats on the field.  I do agree that we "Could do worse" but we also could do better, undeniably so mind you.  We line our corners up somewhere in the Atlantic ocean on 3rd and medium (one of which being the HIGHEST PAID CORNER IN THE fuging NFL).  That is either an admission we fuged up signing him, or our coach is eating crayons.  It took DB saying "LET ME RUSH" or Jaycee saying "let me move" for him to allow any of the biggest benefits to happen.   I'd go as far as saying that the defense has stepped up IN SPITE of him.

That thing about DB is overblown. They were being careful with him early due to coming off the injury. They said so.  And it made sense. He told them he was good to go, so let’s go. It is more that than them just being too ignorant to use him.

My only point of contention. I see the soft coverage.

And the draft pick allocation.  '25: 1st O 2nd D; '24: 1st O 2nd O; '23: 1st O 2nd O '22: 1st O 2nd O. Let the man get a first rounder for a change.  My preference is Arvell Reese but no way he drops to us. Looks like a man among boys on the field.  I've seen him rush and cover the slot too.

Not sure it matters either way (see above).

I think he leaves next season. It's just a question of how.

    • Dude, I think I might be having Jarvy withdrawals... I ripped the sleeves off of all of my t-shirts in my sleep last night. Every bite of my Alpha-Bita cereal spelled Seth, this morning. And, I took 7 naps before lunch. I'm losing it guys! Jarvy's Jaunty Band of Jaggoffs are getting more play than he is... smh Team Canada doesn't treasure Jarvis the way he deserves. He should take his band down to Liechtenstein, get a bag of passports, and start his own Olympic team! The raw animal magnetism of Jarvilicious will bring in a handful of NHLers on its own. And, since the IOC believes in collective punishment, he could have his pick of the rookies. Then, just fill out the rest of the roster with the maple blooded great white northerners who couldn't make the top squad. Can't trust this assembled awesomery to just any old Liechtensteinien with a clipboard and a whistle. Gotta bring in a legend worthy of this gold medal gambit. A hockey HOFer with the balls to buck the system and the aura to match our maverick. Huere geil, Vaduz!!! 2030 Gold Medal guaranteed!
    • Tennessee isn't trading a QB on a 2nd round contract that has starting experience.  That's bad business.
    • OT is the top priority as it is both an immediate and future need.  I wouldn't be past trading up slightly to get the guy we want.  You need that rookie contract right now.  Icky is a dead 17.5 million for the season.  Morton is 20+ mil for the season, Hunt is 20+ mil for the season.  There needs to be forward thinking regarding the future.   Caleb Lomu is a left Tackle, he's a solid prospect, he may be the best pick for us now and in the future.  I would seriously consider cutting Hunt after 2026, and let Lomu and Icky fight for the LT job, loser moves inside.  Icky's future may be at guard after this injury anyway.  If Damien Lewis keeps up his level of play he will need to be paid sooner rather than later.  Yosh and BC can be our top two depth OL at an affordable price.  You will need to look at OT again in 2027. Getting an EDGE for the sake of getting an EDGE outside of the top 10 is pretty risky.  I wouldn't be against eyeing someone like Cashius Howell, Derrick Moore, or TJ Parker in the 2nd (even if we trade a future pick to move up) or DDS in the third. I'd love to see us try to sign both Leo Chenal and Matt Millano in FA.   Chenal for the blitzing element we are missing from our LB corps and Millano for his elite coverage.  They could both work in tandem.  Remember, our FO has deep ties to both KC and Buffalo. I love thinking about the draft, but until Free Agency hits, we are clueless.  Looking at the strength of FA and the draft, OL is priority #1, LB #2, and EDGE #3.  We know what happens to Bryce when protection falls apart.
