2003 was just magical. The Cardiac Cats were something else and it was the ultimate underdog story again and again and again throughout that season. There was no give up in those guys.

I still can't stand Belichick and Brady and you can't convince me that they hadn't been cheating and stealing our signals before that game.

2015 was just a steamroller year, but as it wore on and our celebrations each game got more raucous and unsportsmanlike, I just knew Karma was hovering around, waiting to strike. We came into that game like we had already been crowned as champs, acting like fools, wearing masks in interviews and sadly, got just embarrassed by a decent, not great, team headed by Peyton Manning on his last legs. Karma is a b!tch.

2003 team was a better all around squad talent wise.

2015 had a great defense but it was also aided by Cam dominating the time of possession. He also carried that offense on his back.

2015 hurts a lot more because refs rigged the game for Manning’s retirement.

I'll never forget being at the playoff game against the Rams. My wife and I had seats in the front row of the upper club section behind the end zone. When Smityy caught the X-Clown pass to start the 2nd overtime, he was running straight towards where we were sitting. I couldn't keep from jumping to my feet with my arms up signaling TD before he reached the end zone. Seeing as how we were surronded by Rams fans, my wife was tugging on shirt sayin "Sit down, sit down."

The stadium went from jet engine loud to pin drop quiet in a split second except for the smattering of Panther fans spread around the stadium still cheering.

It was glorious.

The 2015 team was really the only time the team wasn’t an underdog by the end of the season. They were killing teams so bad and it was super fun to watch but it felt like it would eventually revert back to the normal Panthers, and it’s unfortunate that happened in the superbowl of all games. The 2003 team was a team no one expected to be good. Jake Delhomme came out of no where, the running game was bruising and the defense was lights out. That was such a fun run with so many exciting games. Cardiac Cats!

2015 was amazing but 2003 will forever be my favorite Carolina Panthers team

Me too. I missed the ‘96 fun because I had no internet and was living in Atlanta and could only see them play if I went to a bar for a national game or they were playing the Falcons. Other years I was usually traveling on Sundays.

By ‘02 I was back in SC and had dial up internet and discovered fan forums and was free most Sundays to watch.
‘03 was my first really involved successful season to experience and it will remain my favorite.

I could have written that. Agreed.

I was just happy they got into a SB in 2003. I went to SB 50 and it broke me. I never looked at football the same after that game. Great time outside of that with 2 family members who are no longer around but that game was brutal. Ron not changing anything or adapting to the situation. Refs making crappy calls. Poor quality playing field. Bunch of rich turds who only watch 1 game a year around uustalking about the things they own and do. Then we lost to a decrepit Manning. Just brutal. Thankfully we got the tickets at face value.

Bro, I can tell you I would still be in prison in CA had I been there seeing that performance. It was so fuging upsetting.

Hats off for going through that.

In January 2014, I posted this on another forum.  Seems like it fits again:

Do you remember cheering for the rain?

Trying to sleep after “The no-call”?

Do you know who needs to "Ice up, son"?

Remember pleading for .500?

Thinking there’s no catching the Saints?

Punting to Buffalo and knowing how it was going to end?

Do you remember how you felt about Kalil’s ad? Or the fan’s follow up?

Gruden’s interview with Cam?

Do you remember Clausen being the steal of the draft?

Will you ever forgive Mel Kiper?

Did you cry as Jake said his goodbyes?

Do you remember the game that cost Gruden his job?

As fans chant “Luuuuuuke,” do you still hear “Moooose”? … “Hoooove”?

Do you recall changing the diaper? Paddling the boat?

Being happy just hearing the name Smoot?

Do you recall the day when it hurt to say “Keep pounding,” and you felt you’d lost a close friend?

Did you hunt the net for Bojangle’s commercials?

Have you seen a Cajun’s bare butt?

Do you remember the sunken feeling when Smitty was caught from behind and didn’t get up?

Sports Illustrated’s prediction?

Were you angry at Janet for stealing the spotlight?

Does “X-Clown” still give you chills?

Do you sing the wrong words to “Day-O”?

Whenever you hear “He Hate Me,” do you also hear Rosinski finishing the sentence?

Did you like Seifert a little less when he let Walls’ streak of games-with-a-reception end?

But nothing compared to letting Steve go, right?

Do you remember that invincible feeling you had when we won the first game of 2001?

Do you recall who our division rivals were?

Do you remember thinking “Just wait ‘til Bazooka’s healthy”?

How about that weird grin you got watching Kevin Greene fire up the D?

Or being undefeated at Ericsson?

If your answer is “no,” we happily welcome you as a new fan of our beloved team. Trust me, we’ll be happy to explain all of these and more to catch you up.

For the rest of you, it’s been entirely too long since we were alive after week 17. But every question that you answered “yes” to makes this all the sweeter. Welcome to the playoffs.

    • I think Indiana will win it all but Miami should give them a much better fight than Oregon did.
    • When I tell people I was at that game, they usually say oh that’s so cool you had the experience. I call it soul crushing. Why? The weeks and months leading up to it were great, the team was fun to watch every week…some weeks the offense was unstoppable and carried the team (saints and giants road games), other times the defense carried the load (jaguars, tampa). Lots of back and forth games against good teams (Seattle and Indy). Good young players on the team, but the veteran leadership was incredible…from Cam, Olsen, Kalil and J Stew to Luke, TD, Norman, Tillman, Jared Allen, CJ. Role players like Fozzy Whitaker, Cotchery (he caught that MFer), Philly brown, Kyle love, AJ Klein, and so on.  The Friday before the nfc championship my wife and I after a few drinks said let’s see what prices look like for flights/accommodations and we got to talking about how much prices would increase if we waited until we found out if we would be in the big game. We said screw it, we are only out $200 if we have to cancel.  Of course we come out and just pulverized the cardinals in front of the most raucous crowd by far we’ve ever had. We had no idea what we would do for game tickets and then found out a neighbor who worked for the team could get us 2 for face value (each employee got two of their own for free, something cool that JR did).  But then the NFL mafia decided that the storyline of manning going out on top like Elway would give them more goodwill than a non traditional QB who didn’t connect with their target demo and the rest is history. I never have and never will watch that game again. I am just hoping I can see them win one in the 2nd half of my life.
