Nick Scott. Man oh man.

Dude was on the receiving end of far too many big plays in the Rams’ favor tonight.

- Cooked in coverage on the first Puka score to make it 7-0

- Laughably out of position on a big Higbee reception down the seam in the second quarter

- Unnecessary helmet to helmet on Adams along the sideline. Had plenty of time and real estate to lead with his shoulder while still forcing an incompletion.

- Dropped INT that potentially ends the game (though a hell of a play by Puka to break it up)

Probably missing several others. Team desperately needs to upgrade the safety position opposite Moehrig. We knew what he was entering this season, and Evero was loyal to a fault. Killed us all night.

Even if we move on from Evero, given trends, we’ll still have 2 high looks and it is for sure a need.

Ransom is great for 5/6 DB packages, but you need a true compliment to Moehrig.

Would love to find a guy with the nickel/S flexibility with coverage skills. A DeJean-esque dude would be huge.

I don’t knock him for the Adams hit, nor the dropped pick.  The hit sent a message and when receivers come down you can never tell where their head is going to be.  But, I’ll never be made with a guy for making a hit like that on a football play.  He didn’t intend to injure him, but he let him know we’re here and you won’t be catching anything without consequences.

The dropped pick, I wish the FPI or whatever that is would give us a percentage on how likely that play was to end in a INT before it was over.  Even once he got his hands on it, I would guess due to the position he was in, where he elevated to high-point it, and Nacua closing in on him, I would guess the percentage of him coming down with it would be around 5% in the same circumstances every time.  It would have been an incredible, miraculous play had he been able to come down with it.  It was an amazing attempt and it was a great effort by Nacua (but fug him).  It sucks because the swing of the game from had he held onto it and the game being over to getting it knocked out and us losing as a result was tough.

i don’t have a problem with how Scott played at all today.  It was a much better showing than what he has been all season.  That being said, he is a liability.  I don’t know why we just didn’t start Ransom at some point because even though he’s similar to Moehrig, I think he’s just a better player than Scott and has way more potential.  The issue with a lot of guys we have been forced to start the last few years is that winners are guys that come down with those plays, whereas we have become losers over Tepper’s tenure because most of the roster is guys who “almost did” like Scott.  I feel we’re turning the roster over with guys who will make those plays as they get into the lineup.

In all honesty, it's tough to blame Scott on those deep seam throws in the first half. The Rams ran double deep routes on both seams and that is 100% the weakness of cover 3 zone - Scott had to react late because if he chose a side earlier it's probably a touchdown.

The helmet to helmet hit I had no problem with either. He absolutely rocked Adams and I am fairly sure that Adam's finished the rest of the game without clearing concussion protocol.

The dropped int definitely hurt though. If he makes that int, there's a good chance we win the game

I think there is a S named Tao Johnson that has that resume--been eyeballing him for a week or two.

It’s been a thing all year. Those PFF stats having him highly ranked in zone coverage early on made no sense. It was a problem for our intermediate zone game all year because the linebackers struggled in coverage as well. A lot of what people are complaining about Evero calling “prevent” defense is guys getting straight beat at that intermediate level which by design happens to line up with the sticks.

But zone allows you to diffuse responsibility by allocating across areas rather than personnel and therefore limiting the damage from a mistake. We don’t have personnel to run bump n run man coverage. Getting beat doing that means watching our guy chase their guy on long routes down the field.

And yea I mean, a better pass rush is the “rising tide that raises all ships”. Definitely have some pieces but player development and a key free agent could go a long way.
