Could Morgan be eyeing Trey Hendrickson

Thats a lot of money for a 31 year old coming off a bad season who isn't a scheme fit.

In fairness, in everos scheme...NO ONE is a scheme fit. Considering our DBS play 10 yards off, and normal receivers run a 4.5 40...unless he can teleport to the QB in less than a second from snap its not gonna matter much

If I’m earmarking the Panthers to spend big on an EDGE (which we should) I’m going after Jaelen Phillips. He turns 27 this summer and would be more of a long term signing vs. Hendrickson, IMO.

I feel like Dan will go after someone like he did Milton Williams last year, and my money is on Phillips, Lloyd or Dean. Maybe it’s Hendrickson but given the age, much the way we went after Moehrig, I think age plays into it.

I will say though, seeing Demarcus Lawerence light it up in Seattle at 33 does provide hope….. I just don’t think Evero’s system can be compared to what’s being built in the PNW.

Realistically, there’s only so many avenues and there’s limited guys who are going to give you what he brings.

You’re just not finding that much elsewhere. It could be an overpay, but possibly worth it to help sustain our trajectory.

If they could somehow swing adding Hendrickson and let’s say Leo Chenal LB, I’d target that and build the rest through the draft and lower end value signings.

Im not jumping up and down for him, but he would change our defense entirely for at least 2-3 seasons

Screw it, I'll go against the grain and play devils advocate. We tried the committee approach with Turk Wharton and Bobby Brown at DT instead of just paying a little extra for the blue chip player Milton Williams last offseason..That was a mistake. If we pass on Trey, we'll most likely do the same again.. overpay for JAG's who don't move the needle(Wonnum, Jones, Wharton, Brown). If we like it or not, there's a high chance we are going to have BY for another few years bare minimum. Might as well just accept it, use that extra cap space to build a good team around him like other franchises do with their rookie contract QB, then see what happens. A projected 2 year 50 mill deal for a player who's 1 year removed as the sack leader is not the worst outcome. Plus, that would take pressure off our young edge guys to carry the workload.. Tre played in 7 games last year, still had 4 sacks. Around a 10 sack rate if he plays the entire season. Still better than anyone we have. He was also playing hurt before he finally called it quits for the season. I get that he's 31, but a guy who heavily relies on hand usage, technique etc more than athleticism should still be productive as he ages a little. It's a strong LB class. It would allow us to address LB, OT, with our 1st and 2nd round picks while giving us another year to evaluate Scourton and Princely before we jump the gun on another edge.

Nah, we've done this song and dance before with vets. And we're not in win now mode. We can't be with an average QB who needs everything under the sun for us to win. The rest of the team isn't up to snuff to make that happen, and giving a large chunk of salary to Trey would be suicide.
