what does Bryce's 2026 season need to look like for you to be oaky with extending him?

Kind of a hard one. If he actually did it once I still would need to see him do it again before I could trust it.

It isn’t so much stats for me. It is do all the stuff he has been unable to do.
He has yet to take over a game against a stout defense. Dictate to them. Impose our offense on them. I am sick of watching every defense cheat up and crowd us like they can do that with no fear of penalty.

Show up every week and play at a high level. Not just a couple games and then back to  being the little engine that can’t.

Like someone said, be the reason we win and put some fear into defenses.
His play vs LA needs to be the floor. Even better  Go watch it again, he left a lot of meat on the bone.

Basically make me an offer so good I can’t refuse it.
Walk on water compared to what we have gotten from him so far.

Otherwise let’s start over again and be smart about it this time.  No midgets.

Very simple without his wacky games, average per game no less than 220 yards, 2/+ TDs by any means and limit his TOs.

He started 32nd rank in 2023

2024- 28th

2025- 26th

2026- 14th-16th before the baker, darnold, or wilks contract-like offer.

He's needs to help the team wins games and limit the 3 and outs, TOP, and TOs. Be a leader and keep the cold blood comebacks ready on deck.

Start faster -

1st half: 1311 yds, 8 tds, 7 ints, 76.4 rating

2nd half: 1646 yds, 15 tds, 4 ints, 97.4 rating

I really think we have seen enough to know that an extension for this guy is ill advised.

We are just delaying the inevitable, get a guy in the next draft and stop playing around with the most important position.

I think with the investment, they are hoping BY can remain a panther QB. I get that and all, but like I posted above his rank has gone from 32 to 28 to 26..... that's still not #1 overall I carry the team good. But they hope he can make the jump, who knows.......I was never a believer, but I have seen tiny talent and know about the poor level of players and coaches he's had around......

Define extending him would be helpful

I don't see us offering or him accepting a 30m per season offer. If we did make an offer, I expect it would be a top 5 contract which would be extraordinarily stupid even if he did have a 4k/30/10 season. He hasn't been consistent and we don't need to make a Daniel Jones type mistake. I don't think we should entertain making an offer until his 5th year to see how things play out for more than a season.

What's fair market value for these eye-pppping numbers?

Real ones know the Seahawks game ain't the one. Nobody was open. Seattle’s secondary had us and most of the NFL in a chokehold. The Rams were the only team that actually figured them out

The real failure was the 49ers game. That matchup was incredibly winnable, and Bryce complete ass

I feel like my expectations for Bryce Young just don't match the Panthers.

I want excellence. I want him to play like a true number one overall pick, and anything less is a failure.

But the Panthers? It feels like they’re just hoping for a slightly more consistent version of what he was last season.

Lol they are probably more grounded in reality.
My issue with that is, they promised no more mediocrity. I am with you he needs to show out.

extension: incentive heavy contract.
expectation: at this point the bar is set really low and he hasn't been able to meet it: just consistently pass for more than 100 yards a game.

Basically this. He would have to take a prodigious leap - and even then I wouldn't trust him to follow it up the year after.

Is that Bryce improving or just the pieces around him?

I think with a QB that has the ability to threaten the defense our offense could be pretty good. With Bryce its more than likely to be bottom 10 again.

The Niners game was awful. The usually shitty defense came to play for whatever reason at the start.

That said, you can't begin to excuse that Seahawks game performance by saying the opponent was just too good, and then claim that Young is a franchise QB. That is the exact scenario that a franchise QB is supposed to overcome.

The math ain't mathing, and It just doesn't work.

BY has improved, in tiny steps....

AND panthers have improved, more than BY....

The problem is that they’ve never brought someone in to COMPETE with him.  This is football, every position room needs competition.

Draft a QB in the 1st next year and see how he reacts before any big extension happens. You can’t continue to coddle him and then also extend him.

    • okay I found this and it sounds like my hopes for the first surgery being not such a great job seems like it could be actual reality.  I only hoped because that would give a better chance for recovery and ia a possible scenario so I just thought it could be possible. Had no real evidence of it. But I’ll be damned.    This is a detailed report of Brooks’ surgery and the condition of his knee after the failed repair.     https://x.com/jmthrivept/status/2055743129408704806?s= Sparked by some very good questions by @CoachspeakIndex, here’s some info on Jonathon Brooks: 1. Speculation that the first graft/ACLR by Dr. Cooper didn’t “take” or at least was too lax, leading to failure and re-tear. Brooks dealt with issues cutting, progressing in his rehab into the early stages of 2024 and then re-tore it late 2024, requiring a second ACLR in January 2025 (essentially revision). Notably, CAR prolonged Brooks’ rehab process through Sept-Oct due to issues progressing into the next stages of rehab. 2. Second surgery performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache, who has extensive experience with revisions. He did a double bundle technique, harvesting graft from Brooks’ left patellar tendon and a strip of his right IT Band (his right patellar tendon had been utilized for the prior graft in 2023. The double bundle technique significantly increases rotational stability of the knee, leading to a stronger and more secure graft/reconstruction. Also to note, Brooks’ surgery wasn’t significantly delayed, meaning that the tunnels from his prior ACLR were in good shape and they didn’t need to perform bone grafts to fill in (would have delayed 2nd surgery by 5-6 months). Essentially, reading the tea leaves tells me that everything else except for the graft itself was still in good quality within his knee. Good sign for future.  3. Typically, you see a performance increase anywhere from 16-20 months post-revision. Brooks will be ~21 months out from his second surgery by the time Week 1 hits. His knee should be more stable and stronger this time around, with adequate time for healing and return to all movement patterns. I’m not viewing this situation as a typical “Player __ had TWO ACL tears, he’s cooked” situation. Rather, I’m viewing it as the first procedure failed, but the second procedure is significantly stronger and should allow him to return to form this time around. I don’t know why it posted as a link but there it is.
    • Jackie, any more reps tomorrow, or is that it for this session?  thanks for the work
    • How can you say they aren’t trying to win now with all the moves made in free agency? Or is trading first round picks the only way to be win now? I’d be fine never trading another first round pick again, win now be damned.
