JStew intends to remain a Panther

His statement basically says that he would like to remain a Panther.....if they show him the money.

You can't really read anything more into that statement. It is one that any player would make. What did you expect him to say? I am out of here in one year for a big payday. He is smart enough to know that being politically correct in his statements right now is the smart thing to do.

I hope he does stay. But, I still don't really see it happening.

i think you're reading more into that statement than is warranted right now.

read it...

And Stewart, who is entering the final year of his contract, wants to remain a part of it.

“There’s no reason why I would want to leave as of now,” Stewart said. “With that being said, I’m a Panther and I intend on being one.”

the comment is everything is good. right now, there is no reason why i would want to leave. everything is good between him and the panthers.

there is no comment about money or contract there.

take it at face value....or put a negative spin on it...i don't care. i just don't think it's warranted right now.

you read into it what you want to, or you take him at his word that things are good and he wants to stay. any extra thoughts, though, are entirely in the readers head.

Intends is not the same as will, but hope there is hope.

Reading the Stephen Davis thread...there are advantages to sharing the load...longer career....longer life/quality of life.

Also...he thinks the Panthers will be winners.

Hope Hurney can make this happen.

thank you for phrasing it the way it was stated and not adding in the "between the lines" inerpretation and spin that others have.

You do realize that Hurney will either have to slap the franchise tag on Stew, or let him walk to wherever the money is.

It's either cut DWill and sign Stew to a long term deal, or he walks.

I am almost sure that if it comes to that, they will pat D-Will on the back with the left hand while shaking his hand with the right hand, look him in the eye, smile, and thank him for everything among other wonderful platitudes while they give him his pink slip.

You think that Ron Rivera is going to let that happen, seeing as he saw Turner depart from San Diego to Atlanta, leaving an aging Tomlinson? That would be akin to some form of cruel deja vu with a twist of irony. Never in a million years. That would be worse than Stewart reuniting with John Fox.

SD never had a losing record though....went 13-3 LTs last year. Norv's offense isn't about a RB carrying a team.

I don't think Rivera is that worried. Stewart can leave and we could still have the best attack in the NFL. I bet he would trade Stewart for a top end defender in a heartbeat(and I don't mean a literal trade)

How well has ol' Norvs team done, since LT and Turner have left?

My biggest concern is Atlanta makes a move for him to replace Turner.

I will choke you Kurb. Don't speak such tomfoolery!

I don't care if we have to cut everyone but Cam, Smitty, and Beason to keep him from going to Atlanta...

In all seriousness though, I really hope we have enough dough to lock him up before he even officially hits the market.

He may very well intend to stay a Panther but I'm not sure I've ever heard a guy come out a year ahead of time and say "I want to leave next year". Just like politicians don't say they intend to raise taxes during a campaign.

Please don't choke Kurb, we would miss you.

We have plenty, and I mean plenty, of money to take care of Stewy. DWill's cap hit will be reduced as well. There is no reason to worry over the Stewy situation. Plenty of things to worry about without adding any unnecessary burden.

IMO, the Pantherz are on top of this. I say this with confidence because of the way things are evolving at the RB position. DWill's contract was front loaded, and is running out just in time to deal with Stewy. Good timing, good management, just plain good job.

    • I have said if you out even an average QB into the offense we are averaging 25+ points a game. But that will never happen with Bryce under center.
    • The defense is 28 out of 32 in salary cap allocation for 2025. We have a ton of resources tied up in the offense including the highest paid OL in the league multiple 1st round WR's and multiple recent draft picks across the offense at TE and RB and we have two 1000 yard backs. Bryce and company couldn't get past Tyler Shough and his crew in 2 games. That's all there is to it. You can spin it and put the entire onus on the defense to your heart's desire it doesn't change the fact that this is an OFFENSIVE team now. If you want to argue that we should revert back to a defensive identity as we have been in the past which has brought us success then I will agree with you on that. But as it stands the onus is on the offense because that is where we have invested through the nose. Dave Canales and Bryce Young need to do a hell of a lot better than they have against the rebuilding Saints who without us should only have 2 wins this season.
    • Bryce is not trending up. He is the same QB he has always been. Bottom of the league in most categories.  If Canales thinks he can build a contender with Bryce then he is a bigger idiot then I thought.  Offense next year will have the same issues and be just as inconsistent as it was this year.  We have seen Bryce’a ceiling and it is 175 yards a game and that is not a QB you keep around as your starter. That is barely a backup.
