The number isn't retired, but hasn't been used in 20 years.

Singletary himself is said to be fine with it.

Issue or non-issue in your mind?

The Bears have had to have multiple players with the same number in camp because they're running out of non-retired jerseys. Unless they start allowing letters and shapes instead of numbers there's not much to do about it.

Well, wasn't there a thread where everyone said Smith's number should be retired?

Even though it wasn't officially retired...no man should wear that number in Chicago. Definately not some FA pickup.

not a big deal if it's not made to be one, but if I were Anderson I wouldn't want those expectations.

Good point.

Sam Mills number wasn't officially retired until a few years back, but you'd have had to pry the number out of Jackie Miles cold, dead hands.

    • The good thing about replacing a bad player is you really have nothing to lose. If their replacement is bad so what, you didn't get much worse and probably saved money.
    • I came over from the old Panthers Insider site. When Fox Sports bought that platform it slowly just started dying plus the guy who ran that site was dealing with some pretty significant health issues so the whole thing just slowly fell apart. Quite a few of us migrated over here. Not sure how many are still around.  I miss that place. It struck a nice balance of having enough active posters to keep productive conversation flowing but didn't have so much traffic that you end up with a lot of trolling BS. This place is getting there though since we shutdown new registrations but at some point we're going to have to open it back up or we'll watch this place slowly die off too as posters fall off for one reason or another. We just have to figure out a way to filter out the spam bots. It was a never ending battle to ban the spam bots to keep then from overrunning the site. You'd think they'd be a little more strategic. I mean, if you fill a site with nothing but spam people are just going to stop coming so it's not a sustainable model. But nope, every one of them makes dozens of duplicate threads filling up pages upon pages as soon as their account goes live.
    • lol...I don't remember that.  Although recalling what I had for breakfast yesterday is sometimes a challenge.  Hope it was a positive thing.
