Shaq Thompson In The First?

And this is why fans like aren't in charge of anything.

TD isn't going to be around forever. Hell, he could tear his ACL this summer and call it a career. I seem to remember fans throwing a hissyfit when we drafted Ealy too...

We can hope Shaq falls to the second round too. What everyone else is saying is that you draft an impact starter in the first round. Shaq would only see a percentage of snaps.

Agreed. He's not going to get snaps over TD at the Sam, and the Will plays only sparingly in our defense anyways. You can find LBs all over the draft anyways and I'd rather do that than pick up one whose going to sit for a couple years and not contribute. The team has too many needs and is in a good position to address one of them at 25. Can't afford this kind of luxury pick.

If he were willing to convert it might be a different story, but even then it'd still be a position he'd have to learn meaning we aren't going to see an immediate impact.

In agreement here.

We may find a Klein/Glanton upgrade later on that can fill the Will spot.  Given TD swaps between the two and is pretty much strictly our Sam, then an argument can be made to get a more natural-Will for our base packages.

He definitely sounds like an intriguing prospect.

Part of me can't help but feel sorry for whomever eventually has to step in for Thomas Davis though. Davis is going to be an incredibly tough act to follow. He's easily one of the greatest Panthers ever.

Now you know how Byron Bell feels trying to replace Jordan Gross.

Poor guy.

That doesn't matter. If we're drafting solely for percentage of snaps then our longterm future would appear bleak. Again, nothing is guaranteed. I would think Hardy and Beason would've taught us that lesson already.

Then we should draft Ogbuehi just for the fact that he will be talented in the future. Forget not playing this entire year.

with Shaq, everyone thinks he looks a lot faster on tape. So either the combine was not an accurate representation of his actual football speed in pads, or Shaq's instincts, ability to quickly diagnose a play and react, take the best angles and foot steps, be at the right place at the right time, etc are off-the-charts

Either way, the game film is the #1 thing all teams go by. This isn't pro track, this is pro football.

Shaq Thompson reacted to plays faster than anyone in the Pac-12.

    • Watching games this year again and Bryce missed a wide open XL many times and some of them were in the endzone. I get the kid has mental lapses and hasn't broke out yet, but this is year three on a rookie deal! Cutting bait now is too early. If he hasn't gained anymore trust from his QB, posted any highlights, little production, or outright gets beat out then we can talk movement.
    • Samesies   I truly may just cash completely out of Panther football if we give him a long term deal that isnt necessary.  I have watched NFL for 50 years now and I can without a shadow of a doubt say you cannot win consistently with BY.  Way too many limitations to deal with.   I may come back around in 3 years when the inevitable happens and all parties are either cut and/or fired.  Giving him a deal before this season so you hopefully can get him cheaper in case he "blows up" or if you truly believe that he will has to be the most moronic decision a gm can make when the evidence is laid before you with different players
    • This is the one! I was at that game and all KB had to do was lay down on the corner after the pick or make an obvious tag while he was down. He had already ran a lazy route. Then if Cam would've just walked to the sideline like most elite QBs instead of trying to make the tackle.  A lot of people bring up the TJ Watt hit, but he just reaggravated a bunch of scar tissue from that play. And every Cam hater said that the running did him in and it was a dive tackle attempt on an interception that initially began the shoulder deterioration. He still went to New England later and would've got them in the playoffs had their A team not sat out the covid year. We quit on him too early. But hey how good was Teddy? Am I right?
