Panthers talk to Greg Jennings

Any argument that starts with comparing highlight reels has already defeated itself before you even start. Almost anyone can look like an all pro if you paste together a dozen good plays out of 16 games and hundreds of snaps.

Where else am I going to tell him to look? you think theirs  complete game tapes of him you can study on youtube?

The fact still stands, those "16 plays" are better than any 16 plays Jennings or Cotchery have put together the last 2 seasons.

He's actually been among the worst in the league since his injury.

Well here's hoping he's even healthier this season.

And I'm sure having Kaepernick as your QB has nothing do with it. Davis and Stevie Johnson both came off terrible seasons, theirs one common denominator among those 3.

Not sure why most hated the idea of signing Andre Johnson but are super excited about getting Jennings. Jennings is only 2 years younger than Andre and not even close to being as good.

Jennings will not beat anyone deep anymore, it'll be up to Shula to put Jennings in spots for him to be successful. Just asking Jennings to be a number 2 by having him line up outside isn't going to end well.

I'd rather have Crabtree but both were similar WR's last season. Crabtree is the bigger more physical of the two and with the Saints just signing Browner, Crabtree may come in handy.

With that said, Jennings>Cotchery so I'd welcome Jennings to this group any day

I don't recall people hating the idea of Andre... I would bet Greg will be significantly cheaper though. And despite what you may think you believe, Andre and Greg are pretty similar at this point in their career. Andre may be slightly better but not by much and there is a reason the Texans cut him.

Most didn't like it because of Andre's age which is understandable but Jennings isn't far behind. Jennings can still be effective but it'll be up to Shula...

Agree with Thomas on this.

It's about value and salary.  AJ is making $7M+ in '15 and '16 and is two years older.

Both WRs are putting up similar numbers and expectations are about the same, only Jennings would cost 1/2 the price.

Jennings isn't going to be the beast that he was in GB with Favre/Rodgers, but a solid 70 reception - 750 yard - 8 TD campaign is likely here.  I'd take that, even though Johnson is the more talented WR.  Jennings at $3.5M-4M > Johnson at $7.5M

YAC is really not the main thing you look for in a WR. It's nice to have, but getting open and catching are more important.

YAC is actually very important...

...if you're running a West Coast Offense.

If you run a Coryell offense, well then getting open and catching are kind of more important. YAC is a 'nice to have' but not as big a deal.

I don't recall people hating the idea so much as believing that we couldn't afford him (which turned out to be true).

As to Crabtree, I'm not that big a fan anyway, but even less of a fan when you take him out of a West Coast system.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
