Merril Hoge says Jameis Winston is fat, slow, and a lumbering athlete that the NFL will expose

Hoge said, “When you look at Cam Newton on a scale from one to 10 as far as athleticism he may be a 12. When you look at him as a quarterback he probably pushing around a four

Hoge said that in “half a heart beat” he would select Griffin over Luck if he was drafting for Indianapolis. “Don’t be shocked if the Colts take RG3. … Football people will look at this, and they’ll be like ‘holy cow. That kid [Griffin] is unreal.'”

This is what I like to call the logic of a "reverse stereotype," to reinforce the same racist narrative.

Allow me to demonstrate:

There was an overwhelming narrative that "Athletic quarterbacks" game will not transfer into a successful career into the NFL. Most of those quarterbacks turned out to be black quarterbacks (regardless of the fact that there are quite a few qbs who are mobile. IE: Andrew Luck.) That narrative is downplayed when an athletic QB sees success by attributing success to other factors: Panthers win because of their defense (despite Cam's record breaking numbers), or overlooked altogether: Russell Wilson (first black QB to win a superbowl since Doug Williams. First mobile QB to win since Steve Young.)

Since the emergence of the "New prototypical QB," Russell Wilson, Cam Newton, Andrew Luck, Colin Kaep... that narrative has quietly been swept under the rug.

What we are now seeing... and I've heard this twice today concerning Jameis Winston... is that he is now "not athletic enough" to survive today's game. Jameis Winston's football IQ has been compared to Peyton Manning's. THE Peyton Manning... the guy who years prior... scouts and analysts have lived and died by his method as a prototypical QB. Jameis Winston

Now Marcus Mariota is being praised because of his athletic ability... when his numbers aren't much greater than Jameis.

When you take a set of attributes and talents and see them as a strength for one group of people.... but a weakness always for another.... THAT is racism.

So while Big Ben's chunky frame is seen as an asset... Jameis Winston is seen as a liability.

Now... for the record... I think Jameis is an idiot. He's done a lot of idiotic things and I don't see that totally going away. I like Marcus Mariota... but he's just not better than Jameis.

    • Two things: 1. Dr. Eric Eager is central to the draft process 2. I know that it was edited, but we didn't hear "Thieneman" one time, not even before the Vikings pick.
    • Why would he sign here as a guard when surely someone would sign him as a tackle?  Assuming he is healthy
    • Went back to watching the highlights. With a sober mind haha. Here is what I saw.    freddie needs to make 1 of those but the rest aren’t on him.    Slavin was BBBBAAAD again last night. Not sure what is going on with these game one Slavin gafs.    miller was ok but had his worst game in the playoffs so far.    nikishin was no good. His his awful turnover led to the first goal at the end of the first period that just can’t happen. ghost was beat like a drum multiple times last night, including the go-ahead goal at the end jarivs wont shoot. He is either hurt or he is struggling mentally and I think it could be a combination of both. He passed up a wide open net on the power-play only to pass it to no one and cleared it himself.     Svech played well. He is getting zero help on that line.    aho. Worst game as a pro. I mean that. He won’t shoot it, passes go to no one and turns it over repeatedly.  He did exactly what they did against Montreal game one when Miller had a turnover. Aho left his man to go help and left the golden Knight player wide open in front of Freddie.  If I was Rod, you Tell Aho when that thing hits your stick you fire it  someone needs to sit him down just him in a room and ask what’s going on. He seems soft, timid and has zero fire.   canes could have won that game   There isn’t a gap between these two teams  they are dead even   Carter Hart’s gonna get lit up in this series. We can beat that guy. the consensus last night was our defense played horrible and our stars won’t score.  clean the defense up. Tell the top line to shoot it everything and we’ll win tomorrow night.   Possibly convincingly.
