This 2015 team could be something special

Precurser: This is Hornets dejection and Panther homer induced.  While some may get nervous about a 2-yr in a row divisional playoff appearance squad made even better, this is a friendly reminder just a few years back, we had David Carr and Matt Moore, then the following Jimmy Clausen going into the season at QB.  We have now re-signed the best offensive player in the team's history until 20-freaking-20 CE.

Impacts: We added Shaq Thompson, Devin Funchess, Daryl Williams, and Artis-Payne through the draft

We added another experienced safety in Kurt Coleman and then Houston at CB.  We also have an elder Charles Tillman.  All behind Bene and Josh who could shine this year.

We've got a young and insanely potentially lethal WR duo with a potential find in Brown.    Ealy in his second year with 3 other legit NFL starting DLs.  What I'm getting at is that this fanbase has been really pigeon-holed by looking at areas of improvement but we've addressed everything we needed to address.  SS, CB, WR, OL, OL depth, so much.

--

What we really needed: A future RB, a wildcard defensive playmaker, a WR, and an OL

We got ALL of these.

Now, I know some people will focus in this funnel over Oher and Harper but if Michael Oher and Roman Harper are our biggest question marks, we are in a very good situation.

I understand LT is one of the most important positions but with a mobile QB and 4 other very formidable OLs, he's being given a chance to really rebound and play some good ball.  If he sucks, well Remmers played LT in college and has the build.  Throw him over there (or Martin) and Williams on the right side.

This could be a season those 2003, 2005, 2008 highlight films are made about.  Maybe even better in my opinion.

I think we're due to wipe up the NFC.  Packers, Seahawks, etc.: you're all going down.  Yes, this is an overabundance of enthusiasm but this could be a very special season.

This is year three with Dave Gettleman and Year five for Cam and Rivera.  Continuity is very key.  Atlanta and TB have shuffled coaches and philosophies in that same time frame.  New Orleans is nearing the end of the Payton/Brees Era.  This is our time.

Dave Gettleman is clearly one of the top GMs in this league and knows how to draft, how to negotiate to keep the core players and he will achieve a Super Bowl for us.  I think he has already achieved a Super Bowl caliber team.

We signed probably the most exciting QBs in the NFL to a long term deal that should keep him here for his career.  The best part it is a pretty Cap friendly deal.  These deals build dynasties.  Luke is next, Each year DG has to figure out a way to keep those that make us great onboard.

While I agree 2015 team IS SPECIAL I see our future as Special as any team in football.  5 years ago we where hoping to field a 53 man roster of the best players we could find.   2015 we are most likely going to cut players that will end up starting on other teams come September 2015.   Though the Huddle will explode when we cut these players.  I think in the long run we have the best 53 man roster and will start to dominate the NFL.

Back to that Continuity thing.  Over the course of Rivera's tenure we have lost One Coordinator and we weren't really excited about keeping him (Chudz).   McDermott has been onboard the same as Rivera and even Shula has been here that time too.  When other teams come calling.  I think the decision is more difficult to leave.  Their families are settled here.  We have something special and maybe they choose to stay (at least McDermott) when other teams come calling.

So here's to an stellar 2015 and Here's to a team that is IMO ready to contend for a title year in and year out.

Go Panthers

IMHO, the future started the day we drafted Cam. However, teaming Gman with Rivera was the cornerstone to building and maintaining a competitive team around Cam. To that end, they're off to a good start. Cuz they have assembled a team that is capable of carrying Cam as far as he is able to lead us.

The one thought that has me most excited? The future has barely started. And for the first time in a long time, it sure feels good to be a Panther fan,

right on. it all started april 2011 when we drafted cam newton. a lot of people forget just how horrible the 2010 team was and how painful it was to watch those games.

    • Yeah one big factor has been he is surprisingly quite durable. But the reality of that aspect is much of it boils down to plain dumb luck more often than not. Big guys get hurt smaller guys get hurt it happens across the league to anyone to varying degrees. The issue is we are staring down the barrel of a possible top 10 QB salary and Bryce Young is one of the least physically gifted starters in the league. That is not a shot at him it is simply a rational acknowledgment of circumstances. There is a legitimate question to be asked if his window as a starter in this league is smaller as a result because what is going to happen when those hits that he has previously popped right back up from with a smile on his face begin to accumulate as they do for every player that has been in this league? These are just things to consider.
    • This game is a must-win for both teams I feel. For the Canes, you don’t want to go back to Vegas and put them in front of their home crowd with a chance to close out the series. For Vegas, if you drop this game your only chance is to win 2 straight and similarly have to contend with an energized Canes home crowd if you get to a game 7.
