It got to the point where it had to be asked – why is he always so jubilant?

"Because I am grateful for the opportunity to be here," Whittaker said. "Not everybody is where they want to be, and just last year at this point in time, I was at home."

Whittaker was waived by the Cleveland Browns in May of 2014 and was out of work until the Panthers signed him on the third day of training camp. It was the chance he needed, and he knows how rare those chances are for free agents looking to latch on as the start of the season nears.

"So I'm making sure I take advantage of every opportunity to be out here," Whittaker said.

Fozzy was without a team at this point last season. This guy has a great story and is the genuine nice guy that others pretended to be.

"...I was at home."

I'm beginning to think there are quite a few Panther players that feel this way, especially with the talk about "family" & "belonging". Teams with players that feel this way, IMO, do better.  Everybody pulls together for the benefit of the team.

I do love me some Fozzy though! With a nickname like that, how can you not be happy?

    • well i could go on & on but i will just highlight it by saying big difference trust me from the SEC & NFL.it's honestly like comparing apples & oranges especially when you are talking about a  LT. in the NFL you are going up against the most athletic freaks of nature the world has to offer . .the NFL also has much more exotic & complicated defensive schemes than what they are used to seeing at Georgis &  finally but most importantly you have to learn how to master complex bio mechanics where the body kick steps instantly as a reaction to these world class athletes rush without really making a conscious effort it's more of a learned muscle memory  & it can take thousands upon thousands of reps to master rproper technique for a LT in the NFL especially if you are still very raw like Monroe Freeling is    ...just saying
    • All that being the case or maybe being the case, we do not know Wharton’s timetable n the first place. They are being coy about it. Or maybe not. They say week to week the board says he is terminal lol and must be replaced. Who knows? It may or may not warrant a fairly drastic solution.  Walker is a bargain and we are not well stocked at OL despite recent investments. Freeling has yet to have a single padded practice. Too much speculation driving this plan IMO.
    • I would really love to know who’s actually making these moves because it’s weirdly vague who’s doing the hiring and firing.
