Panthers changes this week, what you need to know

All these injuries to the corners means the defensive line and backers are going to have to get quick pressure.  This team has the pass rush to get by with a secondary full of no-names, but a lack of pass rush will be detrimental.

I would also have to think we will be in a base 4-3 defense much more, with shaq in coverage more than he has been all season long.  I am excited and scared at this thought.

So will lou young be getting any snaps out there?  Also i have mixed feelings about the rb situation.  Yes we have ran well but alot is due to stewart breaking so many tackles at the line of scrimmage.  Any way you look at it this will be an exciting game and a look into the future perhaps.

Lou Young isn't even on the 53 man roster right now and the speculation was that he would only be called up if Peanut had to go to IR. Still possible that Peanut stays on the roster, but can't play yet so we cut one of Delaire, Wegher, Marlowe or Norwood to make room for Young, but I find that scenario fairly unlikely. We've avoided cutting them before because the team is high on those guys for the future and don't want to risk losing them.

Cool thanks for clarification.

I gotta question, why is it a MUST that Tillman hurries and plays this week? I honestly don't get it. Yeah, we have injuries, but I have no doubt we could handle the Giants (and even the Falcons again) without Tillman, especially with this offense. That's two weeks extra rest and he could play a few snaps in the Bucs game to somewhat knock off rust. I just don't get why it seems this week is THE week to bring him back.

The risk is by waiting and not testing the knee, he goes out there in the playoffs blows his knee out in the 1st half and then we are really scrambling to find replacements.

If they find out now, the team still has time to get a guy in and up to speed before we meet more important situations.

So do I tell my wife to pickup fozzy or cap for the fantasy playoffs because she had Stew and now she's gonna be pissed.

I would go with CAP, he's a good enough runner with a great line that if he does well early (as Jeremy said, which I believe he will) he'll get touches and he can produce big. Of course there's a chance of him getting 3 carries for 5 yards and nothing else. Boom/bust and I'm feeling boom.

Really the only threat the Giants pose is in the passing game which is why we need Tillman out there.  In some other thread where we were discussing resting players versus going for 16-0 I thought we should not rest players UNLESS they were injured.  We still haven't wrapped up the #1 seed so we need our best players on the field.  Still, I'd hate to lose Tillman over one game.  I'm not a doctor (3 credits short) and I'm not privy to inside info so I'm going to trust Ron to do the right thing for the team here.

The thing that worries me the most about whoever is going to get the bulk of the carries is the read option with those players.  Seems to me that it takes a lot of "feel" and practice to get that down.

The read option isn't as big a part of our offense as people typically think, we could (and should) remove it completely without Stew. Our offense wouldn't miss a beat.

I have a good feeling about Cappie coming in against the Giants. He has the talent as a runner, and their D-Line isn't what it used to be, so protection shouldn't be too much of an issue. Just have to make sure he gets those blocks in when called upon.

No real substance as to why, but I just have a gut feeling he's going to come in and play lights out. The corner situation has me more worried by far. Here's to hoping Peanut can keep his wheels running smooth and heal up as he goes along.

    • and they don’t get paid and teams don’t keep playing them
    • Then if he needs time to grow up and he is going to sign an extension in needs to be a 3 year, 20m AAV. He doesn't deserve to get paid like a top 10 QB right now because he's not. Daniel Jones is getting 14m and is playing top notch football.  He may have had some better games, but his mechanics and footwork are still terrible when he feels any pressure, real or not. When he feels good, he steps into his throws like he should. When he doesn't, it's that body squared up or jumping arm toss or tip toe lob. His fumbling is a huge problem. He cant run QB sneaks. He cant really play from under center because his drop backs are terrible and he needs to be far back to get enough gapping to see the field. That's not top 10 QB contract worthy.  And let's not pretend that Bryce is some victim in all of this. Remember him packing on 20 lbs before the combine for the weigh in and walking around in a hoodie the entire time or practicing that S2 test that no one has mentioned before or since so he'd have better results, or riding that hype train like the wheels weren't ever going to fall off. Stroud got roasted and torn apart because of a "leaked" S2 result. He was being portrayed as an idiot while Bryce was being portrayed as a savant. All Stroud ever said was watch me play football. He proved his point.  Bryce did everything he could to make himself the number 1 overall pick and when that happens, guess where you're going? To a bad team, likely with a new coach and it's probably going to be full of dysfunction especially if the owner is Dave Tepper. But the real dysfunction came because Bryce wasn't Reich's choice for QB. He wanted Stroud because Stroud fit the type of offense he ran better than Bryce ever could. That's why he lost interest as soon as he was drafted. He was forced to play Bryce when it was obvious he wasn't ready to show off Tepper's shiny new draft pick. No HC is going to come to a team when he gets no choice over who he has as a QB to build around and he has to reinvent the wheel when the easiest thing to do was just buy the wheel that fit to begin with. Tepper lied to Reich all the way up until draft day, then he made that pick. Then Reich checked out, and i don't blame him one bit. And I'll be clear, I didn't want Reich. I wanted Steichen because of what he's doing in Indy or Ryans because I thought he would make one hell of a leader and HC.  Reich was a HC with no control over his own team. I put the majority of what's gone wrong involving Bryce on Tepper. The trade gave up too much in picks and DJ to build around him, we had a horrid GM who couldn't draft or build a roster, a QB forced to play before he's ready, an owner that thinks he knows more than football people.    There's a lot of moving pieces in all of this, but we cant pay Bryce 50m AAV at the end of this season while he figures it out, and the 5th year doesnt make sense either if we're a run heavy offense with Bryce as game manager. You dont need a 30m, 5th year option QB for that. If he's not there developmentally, he's not there.  Unfortunately, there isnt time to just calm down. He plays like a game manager this year and we have to move on. You dont give game managers huge contracts behind the highest paid oline in football, especially when you need to sign your LT. Any journeyman can give us Bryce level results for 15m less per year. Just the way it is. If there was more time, maybe. Unfortunately there isn't. Just the way it is.
    • We’ve had opportunities to take 2 of the top 5 Cs in the game and instead we took TMJ and Johnathan Brooks. Our drafts since 2017 have been 1 player per draft and then huge misses on lots of really good NFL players (who the huddle have talk about in the draft threads). It’s been mentioned here so many times to draft more OL once you get to the 2nd and beyond since C/G talent is top tier in day 2 and lots of surprise day 3 guys. Taking Brooks over Frazier just looks worse and worse as our OL helps Chuba and Rico look great and Frazier would be a large improvement over Mays.
