As long as he stops running out of bounds untouched I love him on the roster. Greatly exceeded expectations.

Ted Ginn isn't going to truck anybody. Why does it matter if he goes out of bounds? Not everybody can be Smitty.

Where exactly do you think the money to sign Alshon Jeffrey is going to come from? You want to let Norman go? Not sign one of Short or Star? Cut Kalil? Fill out the roster with UDFAs? Jeffrey is going to get $14M/year. That ain't in the budget,

Not to mention that Chicago will tag him before letting him hit free agency.

We have a lot of money this year if we cut CJ and Allen, which I fully expect us too.

Norman is going to get franchise-tagged apparently.

Short and Star are both signed, as is Kalil, so not sure where you're getting your info from. We have cash this year, finally. Decide whether OT or WR or DE is a better bet to drop to us in the draft and get some people in free agency to fill the other areas.

We went to the Superbowl with Ginn, Funchess, Olsen and Brown..and lost ..

Add in Benjamin we win it..

And Ginn had a drop that led to an INT and Brown is like a scat back...can't use him all the time and he gets nicked up and will get even more nicked up if he actually plays with an ounce of physicality(which he doesn't he runs out of bounds just like Ginn).

KB is no guarantee as much as we all are just ignoring that even though I fully expect him to come back and dominate.

Ginn and Brown...especially Brown are easily replaceable at WR and I have no doubt Gettleman will be looking at some WRs to bring in. Now's the time to surround our franchise QB with as much talent as possible....SB losing teams don't usually sit back and rest on what LOST them the SB...Gettleman thankfully is too smart for that.

Kawann is going into the final year of his deal. Signing Alshon at $14M/year for 5 years means we can't extend Short this season and we have to go into next offseason either being forced to tag him or let him test free agency. We can't tag both Norman and Short in 2017 so you really risk losing one of them or overpaying. KK is looking at a $15M+/year deal based on his position and production. Kalil is also going into the last year of his deal so he'll need a new one for at least $7M/year. Star is going to be on the 5th year option in 2017 to the tune of $10M. All the while Jeffrey is probably counting $13M on the cap in 2017.

Yes we could technically sign Jeffrey but to do so we are venturing into Hurneynomics territory and it would be nearly impossible to sign any veteran help for the defense to replace the DE's we would be losing or another safety or CB for this year for anything but minimum deals. Any injury could screw us because we would be forced to fill out depth with a bunch of cast off turds rather than the quality veteran depth Gettleman has been bringing in. We'd also be forced to draft for need and hoping those guys produce rather than setting ourselves up to go BPA .

Ginn kind of reminds me of Robert Meacham.  he was good when he was with the Saints but not so good anywhere else.  Some guys just fit like that.

Next year, he's likely the third option behind Benjamin and Funchess, which I'd imagine is the role they envisioned him having this past season before injuries necessitated a change of plans.

Everyone can put forth effort, football is not only about making the easy play taking what's given...sometimes it about taking what others can not see is possible, out willing the other man, what your mind thinks is possible along with your body.

That will summarize every rebuttal that I'll possibly have.

Ginn is a talented guy that knows our system. If he had not gone for the bigger payday in Arizona, he would have likely been here for the duration. I really don't see him getting cut. If he is on the chopping block, then I figure Brown would be as well. Ginn may be more vital to our offense (plus he plays special teams).

    • I appreciate the honesty in your posts--I am not sure Canales is rusing(?) because I don't think we are good enough yet to draft players for depth on day 1.  I do think we are in limbo, fwiw.  At 19, I think you are drafting second rounders in the first.
    • We are in a unique situation here. Just my opinion. Three things: Moton’s playing health has been gradually declining as he is aging, while his contract is a drag on the payroll.  Something will give with him sooner than later but I think 2026 could be it.  So.. need a right tackle by 2027. At the latest.    Icky’s individual situation is unique as well. They would have had an extension done by now if not for the injury. We only have him for this year. With no assurance he will ever be the same player.  It would be reckless just to assume. Now we have Walker for one year. And that is a major relief. Maybe he is the answer, but the team that knows him best let him go and it was cheap for us to sign him. So how much did they value him?    We look to be needing two tackles by 2027.  And have poo for depth this year as well. So anyway we could draft a guy for 2027 RT and groom him this year, and see how Icky does, and act as needed in 2027. Spread out filling the two holes over 2 years.    Then I remember, hey if Bryce doesn’t get a Lot more consistent do they extend him? Hoping not, if he isn’t really good.    So then we are looking at the 2027 draft which people say is gonna be loaded with QBs. If we need a LT and a QB what is the pick gonna get spent on?   Taking into account the recovery success rates cited here on the Icky surgery, you might want to plan for him to not be the same player. rather than assume he will be and get caught with your pants down.  It is a tough situation.    And factor in that it is critically important to protect this QB, always, but especially this year where it is said to be make or break. And how you might feel about that.    All of it points to a real possibility that these things converge in the negative, like Bruce sucks and Icky is not the same. In that case if you want to be assured of getting LT secured, the only place you can do that through the draft could be very well be 2026 1st round.     For me, I would like to err on the side of caution.  Cover for these outcomes. It wouldn’t be fun. Added benefit is if we do have a tackle go down this year we will have a guy there. Because I don’t know what we have now.
    • I agree. In a perfect world I wouldn’t want to draft another WR, but in this draft it’s fine based on the value of who will be there at #19.  All of the top tier guys worth pick #19 at other positions of need will be long gone. Only exception is Dillon Thieneman, but he’s almost a shoe in for the Vikings as the Harrison Smith replacement. Some posters on here want to draft an OT just to check a box without realizing the concerns and risk that comes along with said player. Sounds like XL to me… desperately drafting need… KC is a pretty safe player.  Produced all 3 years in college and last year in the SEC vs a lot of top corners in this years draft. He single handily dropped the South Carolina CB Brandon Cisse’s draft stock with how bad he abused him.   Sometimes it’s best to try and hit a double instead of going for the home run. This draft screams “go for the double”. Esp in the first.
