I don't know about that. Ginn's still fast and is a legit return guy. If Byrd's gonna bump a similar type/size WR, I'd think it would be Brown.

The WR position battle may be the most interesting of the preseason.

Slightly less bolder prediction....Damiere Byrd makes the roster over Corey "Philly" Brown. I also say that Garett makes the roster over Bersin.

This is much more believable

Byrd over Ginn could be the WTF cut of the preseason

its about the fit and role.. And i feel like bryd would play the same role as Ginn. But younger and cheaper. I could see gettleman making a cut throat move like this.

Age and money has nothing to do wit it, it comes down to production. Someone of you are really reaching for reasons to get rid of Ginn. Byrd is going to have a REALLY hard time making the roster over Ginn. Point blank period.

Cutting Ginn would only save a shade under 2 million bucks. He's making 2.75...for a guy who had 750 yards and 10 TDs last year who can also return punts safely. He's also in a contract year, where I think he'll play it out then move maybe move on. Aka, he ain't getting cut.

Philly was the guy last year who couldn't catch a cold until the season started. But, I like Philly and think he's a fine 4-5 WR...and all things considered played well in the SB. He's the only WR in danger of losing a spot, but it would still be mildly shocking to me.

KB, Funch, Ginn and (to me) Philly are locks. Garrett has the inside track to the 5 spot over Bersin based on potential, and Byrd will probably hit the practice squad for one more year until Ginn's contract expires.

Philly is safe. Started some as a UDFA rookie. Started 11 games last year. Has had 2+ catches in every playoff game. Entering his 3rd year.

Not saying a lot considering his competition. I like Philly but just decent hands from Byrd would be enough to give him the edge thanks to his crazy speed, and if Garrett is as surehanded as he was in college you can give him Philly's spot now.

I want Brown to move into the Bersin clutch chain mover role. He's a great backup to have too since he's versatile enough to play slot or outside.

The funny thing is that last year it looked like the panthers had its picking of good quality WR. Then kelvin's knee happened, and all of a sudden it seemed like we were only just making do with a mixture of imperfect receivers. Somehow that was ok.

Having the #1 offense in the league was really special in a lot of ways. It's just so interesting to see things play out.

cant wait for the season to start.

i like ginn and im not teaching for reasons. its my WTF cut for a reason. we cut a corner for longevity and continuity moving forward. i could see it happening in that role because byrd could be here fir a long time as opposed to Ginn. maybe get on the continuity train now rather than later

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
