No more Riverboat Ron

"Riverboat Ron" was never who he was at his core. It's who Cam and the fans demanded he become. The less faith Ron is feeling in his team, the less confidence it inspires. The less confident players are, the worse they play. When we're winning, he has no problem making the call to go for it on 4th and 2.

I think he will get fired towards the end of the season. He took us to the Superbowl but he couldn't bring the Lombardi trophy to Charlotte. His ship has sunk. We get the right coach and The Panthers can win it all in 2 years.

There is no way he's getting fired after three straight playoff seasons.  He'll point to this year as being hampered by a ton of injuries, and honestly five of our losses have came by a FG or less.  However if we don't win at least 10 games next year I think his seat will be pretty damn hot.

The Ron Rivera who introduced himself in his first press conference was absolutely the guy I wanted coaching this team.

At some point within those first two losing seasons, adversity smacked him right in the face and he lost the confidence that made him that guy.

He hasn't been the same since.

It is not Rivera. It is the man feeding Rivera's system with liabilities while not addressing weak positions.

The answers to keep this team competitive were available and obvious. Instead, the front office had to weaken the defense and the offense with their project players of the future.

Even if you decided to get rid of Rivera, who would you replace him with? Keep in mind an inexperience head coach will likely take 3 years to round out into a coach capable of competing in the playoffs. Might as well slam the door shut on the Cam and Luke era if you do that. The only coach that would make sense would have to be one with extensive head coaching playoff experience.

    • Lol Atlanta looks to have lost their young edge rusher, has no 1st round pick, a complete mess at QB, a new coaching staff… And we swept them this year. Says what they think of us.
    • I mean, you can only go so far with the propping up. When a guy's numbers are as bad overall as Bryce's you have to try to find specific niches to sell. It's just funny that they're honing in on where he's probably weakest to try to prop him up. Whether it's a pro-Bryce conspiracy or not, it echos my chief complaint about PFF's analysis for years. When your purely statistical analysis badly skews from the eye test of actually watching the games, it should be screaming at you that you need to modify your system not double down on it. PFF is awesome at compiling stats but their grade systems are highly flawed and they never seem to try to improve them.
    • Then why is Byce also last in other PFF stats?  The deep ball thrower stat by PFF can simply be flawed vs some conspiracy trying to prop up a QB on a team that a former employee now works for.  Both of these guys were also hired AFTER the Panthers had already drafted Bryce.  Trying to prop him up with a made up stat while he struggled would be a detriment to their own team honestly.
