Is Joe Mixon definitely off of our draft board?

Ridiculously good player who's one of the best backs in this stacked class and if not for the off the field incident would be a definite first round pick. Question is obviously his character though and I wonder if his situation is one that we'll definitely stay away from, and would love for @Jeremy Igo to chime in. I don't know a whole lot about him other than his on the field play but it seems to me that his only issue off the field was one incident that happened when he had just turned 18 and he punched a woman in a Deli. Here's the video of it:

The girl shoves him, he lunged at her than she slapped him and he responded with a punch. I don't know what the hell started this whole thing and his reaction was clearly over the top and he deserved the misdemeanor, counseling and community service he had to do but she did start the physical altercation, twice. Is this really something that would take him off of our board entirely? There's talk of him falling to day 3 or out of the draft entirely because of this, and any team who gets him will have an absolute steal when considering his talent. Maybe I don't know enough about him but one incident like this when he was barely 18 years old that he didn't even start doesn't scream to me that he'll have any other problems off the field going forward. If there's more than this incident then that's another thing but I haven't heard of anything else.

Obviously for us this is much more serious than other teams with Carruth and then Hardy being on JR's mind, but it's a little different when it's a college player coming in like Mixon and we've already shown last draft that we'd take somebody who has a bit of a history in Worley. Obviously can't equate Mixon and Worley but Worley shows that we won't stay away from it entirely, we'll look at the facts of the situation and make a decision. I just don't see how DG could pass this guy up if he's sitting there in the 3rd still. Any thoughts on this?

2nd best RB talent wise behind Fournette.  Same Size and speed pretty much indentical to Zeke.  No way he lands a panther.  There's a better chance we trade Cam And Luke aaay this draft than drafting Mixon.  Really could see him going to Seattle.  The guy that has left a void there retiring had some baggage when Seattle traded for him and Carrol is a guy who gives guys second chances

I'm wary, but not dead against it. This happened in July 2014 when he was barely 18. He served a years suspension, and there has been no other issues with him that I am aware of. basically, he fugged up (BADLY) as a kid, and pulled his punishment. I don't think that should prevent us from drafting him years later.

I think he is off a ton of teams boards the current culture of the US is just not going to allow this to go away. that said NFL teams have shown some willingness to put college transgression in the past as long as you play well and dont do it again. IE Tyreek Hill

I agree and I think it'd be tough to find many football fans who would be against their team drafting him on day 2 or later. Question is though will JR let it happen if DG does his evaluations and thinks it would be worth it to take Mixon at some point? Or would DG and Ron and their staff not want him anyways?

Some team is going to get CRAZY value drafting in a later round.

This, some team can take a flyer on him.  Heck it worked out well in Arizona and Honey badger.  He was suspended then kicked off the team sat out a year, kid turned his poo around one of the best players in the game.

Kid is a beast though so whoever take a fly on him late could get a top of the line steal

    • Umm yeah. When did he get it done at the right time? I seem to remember a 4-6 finish and needing Atlanta to win our way into the playoffs but whatever.
    • I mean....no lies detected. See above. We have traded a fortune to draft a guy #1 overall that people have lowered standards for to the point that not playing like Jimmy Clausen and looking like a poor man's Kyle Allen occasionally is worthy of a contract extension making him one of the highest paid QB's in the league. That is cope on steroids.
    • summary: "let's talk about your draft, what did you think about Freeling" Dan:   guys with a huge upside, can come in and compete to start.  High ceiling "he does what for your offense?" Dan:   it's hard to find left tackles, guys that big and athletic.  We have Icky coming off an injury, we signed Walker, I believe your offensive line can never be too strong.  If we're going to win the game, it's gotta be up front on both sides of the ball, so we make a point of emphasis on making both sides of the front as strong as possible. "how many mocks did you see Monro falling to you." Not many times, left tackles are gonna go a lot earlier than when we took him.  We want to add the best player, in free agency or the draft"  that's our philosophy, to get the best players possible. "Hunter and Brazzell." Dan:  we followed the board.  Lee we felt very highly of him , super strong.  Brazzel so flexible and loose, can open the verticle.  Will Lee we held in high regard. "you take a look at your receiver room, Coker, my goodness, your offensive rookie of the year in Tet.  Lost Rico, but there is Jonathan Brooks. " Brooks coming off two knee injuries, he worked his way back, looking great, fully healthy, will help in pass and run game.  Icky, not sure when he's coming back but we're excited about both "plan on extending Bryce" we'll keep talking, will keep internally.  We believe in him, has such a great grasp of Canales and offense, has improved every year. "he's clearly come back from the benching, the arrow is trending up, where does he feel" Bryce knows where we stand with him, when and if a deal gets done, he knows we feel great with him, we'll get something done at the right time. "if this a prove it situation?" everyone in the building has to prove it, has to earn it. Tmac was everything we wanted, his work ethic, he's so big and talented, but he puts the work in, and is a great teammate. "your level of expectation, the building's level of expectation for 2026 "our goal is to win the division every year, we know we have to earn it.  we have to put the work in every day, proving it on the practice field, and our  guys know that." "schedule" we haven't opened at home in 2 or 3 years.  We love prime time games, hope we get some "
