most overpaid players for 2017...no Panthers

Recommended Posts

and very few in the NFC South.  But a couple of former Panthers made this list, according to a media person's opinion.  Hey it's July.  It's something to read.

The Tavon Austin part really stands out.  I remember wanting us to draft him.  How the hell does he get paid that?

I was a little peeved at the Jason Witten part when they didn't mention he makes more than Greg.  Maybe that's why Greg has voiced his concerns.

Saints are the only NFC South team on the list.  Could be a big part of the reason our division is so tough.

If you’re paying $20 million for a corner, you’re expecting to get a guy who can lock down an opponents’ No. 1 receiver. After 2016, we know Norman isn’t that kind of player. He’s just average in man coverage, which makes it difficult for the Redskins to deploy him as a true shutdown corner.

Mitchell is a hard-hitter who is just a little too reckless to be making the kind of money he’s getting from Pittsburgh. He gives up far too many big plays and he doesn’t force enough turnovers to make up for it. Mitchell isn’t even in the top-10 safety discussion but only Devin McCourty and Earl Thomas make more at the position.

You think maybe Gettleman  is good at his job? (Yes, he makes mistakes...but seems to learn from them)

Norman really wasn't that bad last year. He had no safety help and was decent.

People around here are just bitter. He had a solid year just not as great as the one before just like many predicted.

I think that's the point though - you don't pay $15MM/year to a corner to be 'decent' without safety help. Not saying that he's bad or anything because he's clearly an excellent CB. Would have been great had he taken Gettleman's offer and stayed in Carolina but that's not the way it worked out.

I agree to a point. He's great/All Pro in the right fit and the Panthers were that. Then again it was one season so who knows really?

A lot of people think we are overpaying Matt Kalil. Hope they are wrong

Those people would only be looking at the entirety of the contract, not the actual structure. If Kalil doesn't perform well, we'll cut him loose after two seasons with minimal cap penalty.

The overall years/dollars in NFL contracts means virtually nothing. It's all about the guaranteed money and structure.
