USA Today; Panther 7-9....last place NFC South

Just like almost all negative projections, this is based on everything going wrong for us...Cam's not being able to play well after his shoulder surgery, players/coaches not adjusting/figuring out how to properly implement the new offense, the OL additions all turning out to be busts, etc.

In almost every case that I've seen, most seem to think we have the talent to be a top team, and for various reasons they just don't trust us to be able to play to the level of the talent.  They mask it as questions, but it's really a lack of faith in the organization (unrelated to the FO issues - just to head off the obvious smartass comments).  Most have probably been burned by high expectations for the Panthers in the past (haven't we all)...particularly last year.

I also find it funny how many of these prognosticators simply follow the trendy picks.  They all want to say they were able to predict the next Panthers (2015) or Falcons (2016), so TB is getting a lot of love because of some of the names they brought in.  IMO, TB is still a year or two away from being a legitimate contender, but I guess it's better to be on the bandwagon a little early rather than a little late.

Bullshi t. We are loaded, this is the most talented team the Panthers has ever assembled. KEEPPOUNDING!!!

This is not true. I would say the 2005, 2008, or 2015 team is the best.

With Hurney at the helm I really could see this happening. Our front office is shambles.

Last I checked, the front office doesn't play the games. It's fine to worry going into 2018. But our roster is pretty much set for this year. The Panthers are gonna ball out, probably in spite of Shula

The FO makes tons of decisions on a day to day basis.

10-6 or 9-7.  Playoffs via wild card with a win and 2nd round loss.......Rivera is safe and Hurney will be named GM. The following season we will be back to under 500 football and again no one will get fired because all of this is okay with The Jerry.

Thats sadly very possible . I'm hoping they are closer to 11-3 or 12-4 with a division win and at getting back to the NFC Championship Game . Pretty high expectations coming off of last season, but you cant ignore the defense has some striking simularities to the 2015 D , but how all our new offense parts and new scheme work is a bit of a mystery right now. We may have two new starting OTs , our two speedster WR one is a rookie and another may not even make the final roster, Cam coming off a sugery/lost alot of weight, Stew getting Older.

    • Ok--I have seen some sample items, and I would like to see something (if possible) measures on field intelligence--maybe how quickly you can grasp a playbook or absorb film session adjustments...Back when we had Morrison as team president and Hurney as GM, I offered to assess (as part of my research in education requirement at a University) emotional intelligence and learning styles of players to help coaches teach more effectively.  Morrison loved it and contacted me about it.  Hurney was not interested, and it fell through the cracks.  My pitch?  If only 50% of first-rounders become successful NFL players and that number drops significantly, can you tell me that you are effectively measuring talent?  Morrison thought it was a good point and wanted to do something that might improve long-term success rates--that would impact the cap management, etc.  Marty, according to Morrison, said he was not interested at this time and if so, he would want a football guy to do it.  (I told Morrison that I played in college and Hurney, a sports reporter at one time, did not. (He told me that Hurney played as a Guard in college--who knew?) Any way, about that time, Morrison left (2017) and the idea was dropped.  I reached back out a year later or so to Marty was still not interested.  A few days later, his wife accused him of assault or something, so I dropped it.
    • Pretty sure they still do the Wonderlic they just don't publicly release the scores.
    • I just thought he was under the radar--but thanks for opening our eyes to him.  I think we should have better measures for intelligence--such as reaction time, angles, etc. Legette is raw as heck, for example, and his RAS was very high.  We used to do the Wonderlic (which was not great) but to know how effectively a player makes on field decisions would be great.
