Cameron Newton, 11/28, 168 , 39% completion rate. Is this the worst passing game of his professional career?

Could have been the thumb? But boy even with that it was a terrible day for him passing. You're not going to usually win football games when your QB is passing below 40 percent on more than 20 attempts.

2014 against the Saints he went 10/28 which is 35.71%. No TD and a pick. Ran one in though.

Last year against the Chargers he went 10/27 which is 37.04% with 1 TD and pick.

that means the 2014 game was worse. He ran one in this game too but didnt throw an int. AND its a lower percentage. case closed I suppose

but this game is very close to that level. He only completed 1 more pass lol. But to be fair I dont remember the exact throws in that game and I do know this game, Funchess had 2 huge drops, Cams should at least been 13/28 instead of a 11/28

Newton posted a 59.8 NFL passer rating against the Jets.  This was only the 14th worst game of his career as a passer. 

He has actually been worse 3 times this season:

43.7 against New Orleans.

48.5 against Philly

54.9 against Chicago

Cam came into the Jet game as the NFL's 24th leading passer.

When the stats are released after the Monday Night game, he will probably rank 25th or 26th.

Stop focusing on the stats and look at some of those throws. I say worst ever. Plus a lot of sideline throws were late, probably due to lack of zip rather than timing. 

Still,  we won and saints lost means awesome day.

Cam did have a bad game (sailed a few passes that were easy completions), but lets not forget that receivers dropped like 3-4 balls that almost all were gonna go for big plays.  It's not great, but say he was 14-28 for 250 yards, no one would be talking about it today.

Am I the only one who doesn't care about individual stats? Maybe it's because I don't play fantasy, but I get excited or aggravated based on overall unit play. Yesterday I was getting flustered with the whole team because there seemed to be a real lack of focus or drive. Defense and offense seemed to both be giving up and it felt like a lost game. 

 

To to the end the defense came alive and I could see the Panthers start to feed off each other and get the close win.

offense never really seemed to reach that point other than McCaffery who was exciting to watch. There were WAY too many QB sneaks for my liking and play calling was either shitty or player execution was shitting, or both.

but at the end of the game I'm just happy they won and the saints lost.

Yea he wasn’t good yesterday. Some games where the worthless qb rating stat says he was worse was really just the result of bad oline, bad play calling, wrs dropping passes, etc but Cam actually played as well as one could hope in his circumstances. Yesterday he was just pretty bad. It’s ok, qbs can have bad games too. I’m sure he’ll rebound quickly. I expect next week to be much better with the NFCS pretty much on the line in that game.

I thought he was going to be ok judging by how he started. You can normally tell what Cam you will get that day judging by how accurate he is with his first few passes. He looked solid on the first drive....not so much afterwards.

I'm going to chalk this one up to his thumb. You could tell he didn't have the same zip on the ball yesterday.

It was bad, but Cam has at least 2 clunkers like this one every season.  It is one of those things we just have to accept because when the time comes, Cam will get hot and when he gets hot, he is as good as anyone.

It's time to unleash his running ability next week though.  We need at least one drive where Cam carries the ball for the majority of it.  It would be a nice tone-setter and keep the Saints honest for the rest of the game.
