Enjoy the rest of the season, because the Panthers will probably be terrible next year.

Every winning team has lucky bounces and breaks. Russ Wilson has made a career of it. Lattimore’s butt interception yesterday was all luck. The helmet catch in the Giants-Pats Superbowl. The Pats comeback over the Falcons wouldn’t have happened without Edelman’s catch that was literally an inch from the ground. Our 2015 season was full of some ridiculously well timed big plays, including at least 3 games saved by J-No interceptions, and that crazy Ed Dickson deflection TD. Good teams get the lucky bounces, but they also go a long ways in creating their own luck. Some teams know how to win, even when it’s ugly and everything is going wrong.

We aren’t perfect, but this team is more than capable of beating anyone they play from here on out.

It’s no secret, the Panthers have been more lucky than good this season. Let’s start with a crucial drop by Bills WR Zay Jones in Week 2 at the end of the game. Lucky penalties at the end of the game against the Patriots to give the Panthers a first down on the final drive of the game. A windy day at Tampa In the first game leads to an off day for Jameis Winston, despite having wide open receivers all game. A critical drop by Julio Jones against Atlanta hands the Panthers a win. Panthers get to face a rusty and injured Aaron Rodgers, who still almost beats them. Cam Newton fumbles a snap at the end of the game against the Bucs and still scores a TD.

The ball has just bounced the Panthers way this season more often than not. In 2016, luck seemed to be against the Panthers. With a black cat as a mascot, luck seems to be a fickle mistress for this team. So let’s all appreciate this season, because 2018 will most likely be rough when the luck turns around again.

I think we all know who is getting a lump of coal for Christmas.

Every team that is 11-4 or better has had their share of luck along the way. It takes skill, health, luck and talent to win in this league. Sure other teams have made mistakes which helped us. Just like we have made mistakes which kept us from 13-2 if we don't hand Chicago and Philadelphia the game. Each team and season are unique. This season has little bearing on the next. But I am going to enjoy this ride as long as it lasts which is at least 2 more games, hopefully more. Not because of what might happen next year but what is happening now. A lot of folks would be less anxious and negative  if they focused on the now.

Every game has 4-5 plays that determine the winner or loser of that game.  Dropped balls, missed kicks, and bad throws happen to every team throughout the game.  It's not luck, it's failure of the team to make a play.  I'm sure you could go back and look at how many balls the Panthers receivers dropped or were overthrown when wide open and it would look like we should be undefeated.

Thread getting sh*t on for telling the truth. We're a one-trick team with a weak schedule and a ton of luck - we'll only last a game in the postseason.

Honestly, the best bet next season is to tank for draft picks, and then select a.) a receiver, if Cam improves, b.) a QB, if Cam continues to regress.

Stupid troll. We are tied for second toughest schedule in NFL  based on opponent win loss with the Falcons....just one pct point behind the Saints.

    • Ok fair to judge only his starts.  But you do acknowledge that going from "he's waaaay above league average in a number of categories" to "here's a single stat where he's above league average (not "waaaay") and another where he is exactly at the league average" is a pretty significant backpedal, no?  I'm guessing he's probably in the ~10th range for completion percentage too if we're only looking at starts (I'm too lazy to isolate his starts and do the calculations), so I'll grant you that one too.  But I don't think completion percentage is all that meaningful as a standalone stat if it isn't bolstered by good TD%, Y/A, etc. On that note, for how much people like posting Passing Charts in here (*cough* CRA) - if you peep Shough's passing charts, he hasn't completed a single 20+ yard pass in the past 3 games combined.  His last one was in Week 13 against the Dolphins, which was a single pass of 24 yards.  I just want to be consistent in how we apply our standards - I think it's always been warranted to criticize Bryce for it (even dating back to his rookie season), but do we suddenly not care about that with Shough? And yeah I did acknowledge that Saints' fans have reason to be excited about him and complimented his poise, which is giving my props.  Still not sure I agree that he looks better than a "ton" of QBs nor do I think you or anyone have really demonstrated that.  I think you are generally one of the more reasonable level-headed posters which is why I'm confused at what I consider to be rather hyperbolic language about Shough.
    • I don't disagree with you, but want to point out that Tremble's strong suit has always been blocking. Case and point: on Horn's 25 yard run, he lays down not 1 but 2 nice blocks...and is looking for #3! https://www.panthers.com/video/jimmy-horn-jr-s-25-yard-run-gives-panthers-red-zone-access-on-first-drive
    • It is a popularity contest.  The selection does have meaning though. It is also 1 of the criteria that is considered for the HOF. The game does not have any significance. The team hasn't been to the playoffs in nearly a decade. That's why they don't get primetime national coverage. To the victors go the spoils.
