NFL could change DPI from spot foul to 15-yard penalty

Why not take the penalty as opposed to giving up 50 yards?

This is professional football.  Don't commit the penalty if you don't want to pay the price.

If it's not broke,  don't fix it.  It's worked for decades.

Hiw many times have officials ruined a game because of terrible calls?

imo it hasnt worked

Obvious PI (tackling or wrapping a wr) to prevent a big play should be a spot foul. The challenge of this would be determining whether it is.

Overall I'm not a fan of putting that level of discretion in the hands of the officials. They have enough discretion already. I think that's part of the reason why they got rid of the 5 yard facemask penalty and just made them all 15 yarders. Simplify it.

So hey instead of giving up 50 yards and possibly a TD all I got to do is hold them and just lose 15 yards? I’m going to hold on like a extra clingy ex

Pretty much.

This suggestion has been around before. No shock, it tends to come from defensive coaches.

Every call is terrible if your team is the one committing a penalty.  Furthermore,  DPI is pretty much an easy call to judge. I haven't seen all these games ruined by a terrible DPI call.  It's easy: Don't hit the receiver before he has a chance to catch the ball.  As long as you're making a play on the ball,  you have as much right to catch it as he does.

I don't like it. Get beat deep, just maul the WR. Give them 15 yards and a 1st and move on. NFL players are more savvy than college players. They'd get that pounded into their heads. Other than blown coverages I think it would really put a damper on the vertical passing game. These guys would get coached to just maul the WR on any deep ball that they couldn't make a play on.

I like it.  Our CBs suck

I think it should be minimum 15 yds then half the distance of the penalty placement if it's over 30 yards. 50 yards down feild is a 25 yard penalty.

I was thinking this too but then imagined refs trying to arithmetic and re-spotting the ball 5 times after a lengthy review.
