You know who isn't getting enough credit? Marty Hurney

Meh, if Gaulden doesn’t do much, it’s pretty meaningless. Olsen’s been a stud, that was a big trade. I don’t have high hopes yet for Gaulden. He looked good a couple times but then looked lost playing the last couple preseason games and so far in the regular season.

If you're going to compare, compare apples to apples.

The Olsen trade was Olsen for Brandin Hardin . . . so a potential HoF TE for a guy who never actually played a snap.  That is a fleecing of epic proportions.

The Kelvin trade was Kelvin for Rashaun Gauldin . . . the jury is still out on this one, but Gauldin made the team and is at least getting playing time.  Kelvin gonna Kelvin, and having him do it in Buffalo while we work on a guy who potentially could start for us can't be less than a win.

Which bodes another question: Would Hurney have been better the first time around if there wasn't a certain meddling owner around? No one will ever know. But for now, I'm eating crow, because all of his transactions have been solid and made sense. Maybe he did learn from his mistakes, but so far he has done nothing stupid. That Kelvin Benjamin trade last year for a 3rd is still his highlight for me because it happened at a time where nobody thought it was a good move. That was straight robbery.

I’ll give him the credit he deserves. He has done a fantastic job with his signings & drafting thus far. I despised Hurney as our GM in his first stint. I think some of my Hurney hate though was bcuz of Richardson interfering.

People typically learn from their mistakes & hopefully Hurney has from the small sample we’ve gotten he’s been solid so far.

I brought this up in another topic, but yeah, Marty has been doing a great job. Not just this year, but last as well. That trading away of Kelvin Benjamin? In hindsight I think we'd all agree that it was definitely for the best. Getting Peppers to come back? Beautiful! Drafting, so far, so good.

The guy is doing for us what he did back in the days of Fox -- putting together a legitimate team. This time, he has more experience and insight. It shows. And I think Marty is still chasing that ring he didn't get thanks to the Patriots back in '03.

Glad to see him back and darned impressed by what he has done so far.

Agreed on pretty much all your points.

I hated the kb move at the time.  But in hindsight, it worked out.

Didn't getting get peppers back?  Not sure but hurney started in Aug. 2017 I think and peppers was back by then wasn't he.  I remember hurney finished the Turner contract and extended or modified Olsen and davis' deals when he started.

Regardless, I can't hate on what hurney has done lately.  I loved getting c.j Anderson and Reid.

3 games in and we are ready to anoint a guy we all hated as great. No thanks, I'll wait to see how the full season plays out with the talent he has brought in.

"Hated" is such a strong word, and not "all" were in agreement that he couldn't learn and improve upon his errors the first time around. But, to your point, I thought about starting a thread like this yesterday, but thought it was a bit too soon. But, don't get me wrong, I think that the results will ultimately swing in Hurndawg's favor.

Hahaha same old Hurney just new optimism. Hurney has had one 1/2 drafts and has produced about the same results as he did back in 2001. People forget he was never terrible just not top. I honestly don't really have a problem with the guy since JR isn't here to meddle.

People on here are so predictable. Few posters who disliked Hurney have changed their minds, although there are a few more enlightened and objective posters who can see the difference between the first time Hurney was here and the present job he is doing. As I told you since the offseason, Hurney took the last several years to self- evaluate and talk to a lot of experts and good GMs about the job. He sat back and learned the value of not being overly loyal and being more objective and results driven from Gettleman.  This is about redemption for him and he is doing everything he can to use all he has learned from others to do a great job. And anyone with a modicum of objectivity would agree that he is much improved this time around.  If you can't see that honestly you have your head in the sand. It isn't even that much of a debate for reasonable fans. I am enjoying the ride all the way to Atlanta I hope.

So far Hurney's second trip around is going much better than his first. I'll eat some crow and admit I didn't think he was capable of signing a wet paper bag to a contract without a 10M signing bonus and wrecking the cap. So far, he's done well. I think where we are going to really see it is in the offseason when it comes time to make some hard choices with some loved players here. Not everyone can get what they think they deserve, or will in the FA market.

The KB trade is looking really damn good, but at the time, I, thought that the trade was being made because Cam wouldn't stop zeroing in on him and ignoring the rest of his progression. It turns out, KB might have been a less than stellar locker room guy and a more than stellar buffet guy.

I'm meh on the Smith trade, even though Worley imploded. It's not terrible considering what FA WRs were getting paid, but performance is still meh.

Yep, I blew it on the Peppers timeline. Sorry about that. I was on a roll.

    • I liked him when he was at Michigan because I'm a Wolverine homer. After that...
    • Hello, soccer fans [crickets, tumbleweed flies by]. The World Cup kicks off in less than 2 weeks and, well, 🇺🇸USA USA USA🇺🇸 and all. We beat Senegal 3-2 yesterday in a tune-up friendly at BoA, with Christian Pulisic finally entering the scoring column.  How will we do in the World Cup once our tournament kicks off on the 12th? Well, there are 48 teams (assuming Iran is there) and it feels like one of two thing happens: we get grouped for the first time since '98, or we make it to the Round of 16 for the third time in the last four World Cups. I tried out the lottery for an Atlanta game and struck out, so yesterday was as World Cup as I'll get for in-person ($285/ticket for like Norway vs $39/ticket for USMNT right beforehand was a layup).  The U.S. has a travel-heavy schedule in group play, playing in LA, Seattle and LA. Real road warrior mentality being built. Glad the east coast gets worse kickoff times for a NA World Cup than a Qatar World Cup.
    • Well, that's the thing. Drafting players only for their physical measurables as you are suggesting only really happened during 2024, and X unfortunately has become the poster child for that. To be clear, it's not necessarily about drafting RAS over skill, but RAS over NFL-readiness and/or a solid body of work. Lots of players show skill in college, but those skills don't necessarily translate to the NFL for a multitude of reasons. But, getting back to the main point, to be clear, I believe that our FO is still enamored with physical gifts (who wouldn't be?), but now they're letting Dr. Eric Eager's proprietary system--his "secret sauce" prioritize the players that the Panthers draft, and it seems like it weighs not only a solid body of work, relative to a college career of course, but consistent gradual improvement as evidenced by production pretty highly.
