20.

Starting Lineup:

Left Tackle: Chris Clark, 57.2
Left Guard: Greg Van Roten, 60.8
Center: Ryan Kalil, 65.0
Right Guard: Tyler Larsen, 52.0
Right Tackle: Taylor Moton, 82.6

It’s difficult to believe that the Panthers could watch Taylor Moton in practice over the last year and a half and still not find a starting spot for him before injury forced him into the lineup. The second-year tackle has allowed three hurries now on 166 pass-block snaps for his entire career. That’s it. My guess is someone isn’t getting their job back when they’re fully healthy.

OBVIOUSLY YOU HAVEN'T SEEN RON RIVERA COACH YET

Good post, and and I would agree #20 is probably correct.  Even though offensive line has been surprisingly not a disaster, it is still something Cam and Norv have to overcome on a weekly basis through scheme and execution.

Also makes you appreciate what CMC has done as a runner.  Regardless, the line still can improve over the year as they play more together.  Plus, Trai at RG is better than Larsen.  If we can get the line grading in the top-half by the end of the year and incorporate Moore and Samuel more into the offense, we can be a threat in the playoffs.

I've long been a critic of PFF's subjective grading.  They make it look scientific, but it's just one guy's opinion.  To my eye, and I've watched every play more than once, Greg Van Roten deserves a higher grade than he's given.  But then I checked all the grades they gave other LGs, and he's 12th ranked (ahead of the vaunted Andrew Norwell), so good on him.

And our overall team rank might be higher if Trey Turner were in the mix at RG, rather than Larsen, who drags down the grade with his very low 52 grade.

Overall comment on PFF: meh.

Based on the post above with pressures and yards before contact and these stats:

#1 rushing yards per game

#3 rushing yards per carry

#6 in sacks given up per game

I'm not sure #20 correctly reflects what they've done so far. Our yards per play is middle of the road, but we do run more often than most.

In all fairness we haven’t played any elite d-lines. Dallas was the best so far? Or maybe the Bengals. Lets just say our o-line is lucky they haven’t faced a d-line like the Bears.

As per usual, Cam making his line looking better than it is.

Would actuallly have to agree with this point.

Sure, our oline has massively outperformed expectations, but a lot is Cam’s elite tier pocket movement and avoiding pressure.

Panthers OL is much better than 20th.  Granted, it took a couple games for the Panthers OL to gel and this lineup now is better than we've had in a couple years.  No way are they middle of the pack bc they are creating running lanes and Cam has plenty of time to throw the ball.

People here act like Cam is the only QB that is mobile in the pocket.  Most QBs in the NFL today are very mobile and Cam is unique for what he can do outside of the pocket.  The days of statute of liberty QBs like Big Ben and Brady are long gone and all of these younger QBs can elude tackles in the pocket.

PFF is trash & not reliable. Based on the actuals of less pressures & rush contact, we should be the 1st or second best Oline as a unit. Look where the other teams stand. I think PFF likes the house hold names to use in the in the rankings versus the blue collar guys we have on the line. Until the names of players start popping up in the network shows or social media they will continue to give the no names average or low grades. It is easy for the skill position players because they are showcased in the highlights.

Oline players rarely get any love.

    • this     I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who will run up their blood pressure to get to the grocery store 30 seconds faster or are racing to get to work like it won’t be there at 8:02.   The only thing I’ve ever done that I think added more years to my life besides quitting smoking, was to learn to go with the flow behind the wheel.
    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
