Does this team feel a bit like the 2014 team?

Starting to see a lot of similarities between the 2014 Panthers and the current 2018 Panthers.

Both teams started 3-2.

Both teams have an uncharacteristically bad run defense.

Both teams are starting a patchwork O-Line, with undrafted free agents and guys off the street starting.

The teams are facing similar opponents. The 2014 team played the NFC North and AFC North. The 2018 team is playing the NFC East and AFC North. Swap Vikings (2014) for Redskins (2018), Bears (2014) for Giants (2018), and Packers (2014) for Cowboys (2018) and the schedule is the same.

Both teams seem teetering on the brink of a full on collapse after a hot start

Some things are quite different though. The 2018 Panthers offense seems more competent and talented than the 2014 team. Cam Newton is much healthier than in 2014. The RB position isn't crushed by injury like it was in 2014. So a 6 game losing streak might not be in the cards. But the Panthers 2018 team seems flimsy and could be on the brink of a losing streak.

Sunday's game will say a lot about this team, facing the reigning champs on the road. A loss could spiral the Panthers into an ugly season with some tough games on the horizon. This team needs some momentum or we could see a repeat of 2014.

When the Eagles get through slaughtering us, yes, it'll feel like the 2014 team.

I mean I guess our offensive line is patchwork, but trying to compare it to the OL in 2014 is laughable.  The line has been good this year, whereas I’m not sure the Panthers have ever fielded an OL worse than the 2014 one did until Turner and Norwell became starters.

Man I hope not,... there was too much hype coming into this year—

i keep hoping there’s a “fix it” game.

our team has a lot of new players, and playcallers so it’s about coming together, “gel” basically.

they haven’t gotten that “gel” yet. Hopefully they do this game.

I don't see any similarities. That team got blown out in basically every road game it played and was horrific offensively until Week 14. This feels more like last year, but I think our ceiling is much higher and Cam isn't behind the curve due to injury.

Blowouts didn't start until around this time in 2014 after we started out 3-2...

There are some similarities.

I think this is where most got caught up into believing.   Beware of the hype train or you will get ran over when reality sets in.

    • Looking like it might be game 7 for Pitt and Phi. Philly is spent. I like more rest for the canes
    • Moton is the man through and through. 2 things I'll always give Gettleman credit for, 1 is drafting Moton, the other is building a SB contending roster and blowing it up in one off-season
    • Kurb is still alive and well.  I’m still friends with him on all of the social media.  He truly is a great man!  That’s my bro!  He always looked out for me since the early days of the huddle.  It definitely makes me sad that he just quit posting here, but that’s life.  He still shares his takes on social media and X, but a lot of the huddle vets just grew tired of this format and the environment, I guess?  It’s a lot of guys that were valuable contributors here that just stopped posting but are still alive and passionate Panthers fans.  Blindsite used to post huge write-ups and was a well-respected poster and then just disappeared.  We had one of these type threads several years ago and he checked back in and explained he just lost the motivation to stay active here.  It was amazing hearing from him again…   I signed up in 04 after coming over from the Charlotte.com boards and been here ever since.  (For those that don’t know - this is Proudiddy - had to change the name very recently due to ‘ol tootsie roll penis and the bad press 😂).  I’m forever thankful for all of you, even those who I haven’t had the greatest history with, I still appreciate yall.  Many have come and gone, both figuratively and literally, and that has put a lot into perspective over the years.  I went from a young, newly married, wide-eyed twenty year-old guy with a baby on the way, to a now forty-two year-old guy, recently divorced and newly re-married guy with my oldest baby now an adult and 5 more kids since.  And what ride it has been!  You guys have been a much bigger part of my life than I really care to acknowledge.😂
