Some Cam Love

Cam Newton has been ridiculous in the red zone this season.
Through 7 games, he’s 17/24 (70.8%) with 9 TDs, 0 INTs and a league-best 120.7 passer rating.
That doesn’t include his rushing numbers down there.

Cam was out of his mind against the Ravens on Sunday, as Carolina throttled what is one of the NFL's best defenses, completing 21 of 29 passes for 219 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for 52 yards and a score on 10 carries.

Newton is now completing more than 66 percent of his passes on the season, an unheard of number for the former No. 1 overall pick who spent most of his career well below the NFL's version of the Mendoza line, hanging in the 55 percent area for most years.

His red-zone numbers are eye-popping before you even factor in Cam's ability to run the ball near the goal line.

I don't think it's out of control to suggest Newton is the greatest rushing quarterback in NFL history, and I don't think it's out of control to suggest he's the greatest red-zone threat in NFL history either.

What's happened this year is Norv Turner has taken over and made Newton more efficient, while keeping him from taking shots

I bet Cam and this offense only get better every week.  Oh...and what did I read last week....Cam has passed Aaron Rogers for most 4th qtr comebacks?

Yesterday was fun.  Looking forward to many more good times.

i think Cam passed Rodgers for most 4th quarter comebacks since 2011 (cam's rookie season) but not for career as Rodgers has been in the league longer.  this is totally off the top of my head, calling any stats guys to correct me if this is not accurate

either way, he has been a dominate force in the red zone since he's been in the league and now he's satisfying the haters (if that's possible) with his completion %.  he's really coming into his own and it's exciting for us Panthers fans.

I wonder if the writer of that article even understands the contextual difference between those two statistics?  I doubt it.

Probably more like "Look how low it was!  Now look how high it is!  HERP DERP!"

Luckily, Ty Montgomery ran that kick off back and fumbled versus the Rams. There was about a 90% chance Rodgers was going to either get a FG or TD to win the game.

Ty took that out the back of the end zone even after the coaching staff told him to take a knee...ouch

All this considered, you would think more fans would be extremely grateful for having him.

You would think. Just wait until the next off game Cam has. The haters (racists) will come back out in full force saying how he can't read a defense and how he needs to stop celebrating.
