Ron just staked his career (and potentially the season) on that playcall

I'm frustrated by this loss but LMAO at this thread.

People for months have complained that Rivera is soft and that Rivera is too conservative.  So he goes aggressive and Cam Newton misses the WR and now its a bad thing?

I'm not disagreeing that we should re-evaluate Rivera's status at HC, but it definitely shouldn't be because of that.  While I think they should have run the ball with Cam, that was ultimately not a bad choice to go for the 2.  He did exactly what you guys have begged for him to do - be aggressive - and now its a bad thing.  Had we kicked an XP and the Lions pushed it down the field and got the FG, everyone woulda been like, "that's what happens when you are conservative!"

Stupid stupid stupid call and anyone who disagrees is a fuging idiot. The whole sequence was idiotic. If we didn't call a timeout to "look at the defense", which was again stupid because they were on their heels, we'd at least been able to kick off and get it back with a 3 and out. And then even if we convert, they still have plenty of time to go down the field for a FG.

It was a stupid unnecessary call that could only lose us the game , not win it. I'm a HUGE Ron supporter, but no longer. I'm at best on the fence about him now, head coaches CANNOT lose you a game, and that's exactly what he did.

based off Gano missing a 34 yard FG and an XP in the dome, meaning that last drive should have been 20-17 Lions or at worst 20-14 Lions and making the 2pt conversion unnecessary. receiver was wide open in the end zone but Cam put it too high for him to make a play on it.

NO....you didnt answer my question correctly.  Detroit still had 3 timeouts and over a minute and only needed a field goal. Kicker already hit a long one today, defense hadnt stopped them from getting to midfield all game....you said the 2pts would have won the game.....what makes you think we were gonna hold them off in that situation??

take the easy points, either way the lions need to drive down the field for a field goal. so why go for 2?

yep, it's literally a bet you win off being able to stop the lions in four-down situations with two time outs and most of the two minute warning and betting the entire game to do it.

makes absolutely no sense in the world. low reward, catastrophic risk. i don't see how anyone is defending the decision.

Rivera's petty doghouse is the dumbest thing about this franchise

Ian Thomas runs a route wrong and gives way to The Obsolete Man at TE, Funchess puts four balls on the ground and Moore gets pulled until crunch time so as into not risk putting pressure on Ron's desire to start funchess and Torrey upon his return

Fug you. "Not putting the loss on Cam" but you'll sure hang it on a kicker.

Yeah, I'll hang the loss on a kicker who can't hit what essentially was 2 XP's distance-wise, and not the franchise QB that marched us down the field within 90 seconds despite having multiple drops from Funchess. Cam missed the pass and that's on him but we should not have even been in that situation to begin with. I'll put most of this loss on the porous defense and questionable playcalling (passing twice on 3rd and 2?).

If you need a FG to beat the Lions today, your team has bigger problems than the kicker.

i agree.

Its about being smart. Even if we make it, Detroit has all 3 TOs and plenty of time against our soft D to get Prater into FG range to kick the game winning FG. It just didn't make sense all around to go for 2.
