LT from WV projection for Panthers by Matt Miller

The Pick: Yodny Cajuste, Offensive Tackle, West Virginia

The days of watching Cam Newton run for his life every passing down can end with the selection of senior left tackle Yodny Cajuste.

Cajuste is a fantastic athlete at a position that is too often overlooked because he played in the Big 12 and operated mostly in a wide-open scheme some scouts want to discount. That will be their loss, as Cajuste has excellent physical tools to work with including fast feet, great balance and enough length to keep pass-rushers off his frame.

The Panthers have to address the offensive line this offseason. Adding Cajuste checks off the team's biggest need.

Don’t know much about him, but if he is a solid LT, we should run to the podium to select him. Sign Clark for cheap as a back up and cut Kalil June 1st. Pick up a solid FA center and let Larsen compete for LG... Can you imagine CMC behind a solid line?!

could you imagine a QB behind a solid line that doesn't need to be schemed around?

Depending on signing Williams or not. LG is also a big need. Van Roten is mediocre at best. That’s why I’d rather resign Williams. There’s some good depth at C/G in this draft. If we resign Williams we can use our 2nd and one of the two 3rds or 4th in 1 C and 1 G and have a really solid OL with good depth (Van Roten, Larsen and maybe Newhouse/Clark). Kalil needs to go. Wasting an extr $7m in cap on him this year is dumb.

Moton will play LG imo. Williams will receive a nice contract because he's a proven player, so no need to roll the dice on a RT in the draft imo. We're good at guard imo. I think Kalil is going to be sent packing. I'm hoping we'll take a LT round 1, and C round 2, assuming the value is there. The rest of the draft can be plugging the holes in the defense.

Larsen was pretty bad at RG for Turner. I think he’s better at C, but he’s still someone we can upgrade. Same with Van Roten.

I agree.  Van Roten had his moments at LG, but Larsen was bad at RG.  Cam was not the same QB when Kalil was out, fwiw.

I really shared this because those of us who aren’t draftniks would really. not have known about Moton or Thomas unless we followed their schools

i thought it might help at who to watch at the combine too

...of course I don’t want the Panthers to reach but I think Tepper was pretty clear in what he wanted and who knows about the contract situation with Williams and with those knee injuries, who knows

one thing is certain, should Newton be able to return we cannot afford any blind side hits on that shoulder anymore

Stud LT in the draft is a good move.  I thought Larsen was solid at center, others not agree?  I think we big time need pass rushers and I hope the Panthers make a splash in free agency for a game changing DE and I don't even care if they pay big money for one.

    • You’re playing madden we’re talking real football stuff…. He does have you seen his special on internet he def thinks he’s getting paid
    • Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates
    • This is the flaw in your logic.  Cutting 3 of our best players will somehow move us from whatever we are to "compete". Even the most Young super fans are not predicting a ceiling above top 10-12, and that will not nearly cut it.  Someone will need to break the log jam of QBs getting nothing or North of 50. Our qb is at best a middle ground, lets hope it will be us that also manage to pay the worth at about 100 over 3 years.  And before you jump me, yes that is only of he improves.
