Grier was a Turner decision

Man worst thing to happen to cam was getting drafted by this team. Now we know why luck stayed in school. Half the fan base was calling for Derek Anderson to start over him. Never acquired any serious receiving or OL help. Now we spend a 3rd on a backup qb? Meanwhile the colts do everything possible for luck to succeed

LOL

Oh look, someone bringing out the race card again. Please take that thing and shred it.

Well it's not like these people are smart enough to disguise it. Certainly nobody without an ulterior motive could make argument for starting Anderson over Newton.

What’s wrong with drafting your back up QB with your comp 3rd pick? Patriots drafted Garrappolo in the 2nd and it worked out great for them. We get a possible insurance policy if Cam’s shoulder is still hurt, a cheap (hopefully reliable) back up for the next few years and after that we can either trade him (if he is good enough) or possible have him step in if Cam is starting to decline. If gives us options for cheap. I mean worst case scenario is he looks terrible in the NFL and we wasted a comp third (which is basically and early 4th). Plenty of 4th rounders are question marks, I’m pretty sure we traded ours for a 40 year old punter one year...

Well the next decision is when to pull Cam and play the young guy and thats not an easy one. Once you cross that line its hard to go back.

Its hard to think about now but it seems to me this is insurance for Cams next contract. If he wants to break the bank and we have a good young QB sitting behind him we can move on. I like the prospect of having the future Drew Brees on our team.

If I were a QB I would try to avoid he Panthers if I had options. Love the Panthers as a fan, but if my neck were on the line I'd rather play just about anywhere else.

You'd rather play in Philly, where you get booed on draft day and the fans are after your head for 1 bad game? Or Tampa, Jacksonville, the Jets  or Oakland where they have no ability to develop a QB and you'll be out the door in 2 years? Or New York where the determining factor about who's going to protect you is if he earned the Hog Molly stamp of approval from a guy who tucks his tits into his waistband while he trades away your best receiver?

You make it sound like we haven't hopped from one multi-year starter to another for the last 15 years. With 1 brief Clauseny intermission.

Lol Luck? That’s the example you want to give? He routinely had the worst o-line in the NFL up until this past season. And we literally didn’t draft a single quarterback during Cam’s entire career here until now. Nevermind drafting KB, Funchess, Samuel, DJ Moore, and Christian McCaffrey all with 1st/2nd round picks in the last 5 drafts. You could argue that we’ve neglected to provide him with a top-tier o-line, but it seems odd to complain about that a few hours after trading up to the top of the 2nd round to get him a LT.

It’s like you’ve been in a coma for 8 years and just woke up in time for last season. That’s the only excuse for using Andrew Luck as a model for how to surround a QB with help.

Both Turners, apparently.

Around a minute into the video, Grier is talking to OC Norv Turner and thanking him. Norv tells Grier that QB Coach Scott Turner was his primary advocate on the staff and makes it sound like Scott pushed pretty hard for him.

It's interesting however that Grier thanks Norv by saying that he "made it happen". That makes me believe that Norv had given him some indication previously that he was hoping to get Grier on the team. So it isn't all Scott, and realistically it's unlikely that anything like this could happen without Norv's endorsement anyway.

Thus for better or worse, this choice saw it's beginning in the Turner household. It's now up to that same household to make it work.

Poo for the title. It was not a "Turner decision". It was obviously his preference, one that he shared with the decision makers. The decision was made above Turner's  pay grade.

I would try to avoid teams that were willing to put a bad o-line in front of me. I don't want to be under center and look up and see Nate Chandler. No thanks. I don't want to drop back and see the entire Steelers defense fly through the o-line like it isn't there the whole game. Not cool. I don't want to take repeated brain crushing head shots from head hunters who won't get a flag because we're a small market team, only the look up in a daze see more opposing fans than Panthers fans at BOA. Call me crazy.

Semantics.

Scott Turner pushed for Grier. Norv Turner agreed. Without those two, it doesn't happen.

This reminds me of a few years ago when the steelers came to BOA, we were putting a good young football team on the field with plenty of stars only to have the whole stadium filled with those poo yellow towels.

Good or Bad player I think this is a bad pick.  The only way Grier sees the field in the next four years is if Newton gets hurt.  A third round players should be a starter within a year or so.

A good backup but we could have used it on someone else that could play more often.

That said, he's a Panther and I will support him and our team.
