ESPN Ranking NFL QB Commitments : Guess Where Cam/Panthers Are?

All the way down at 25. I bet some of you didn't realize this stuff :

25. Carolina Panthers
Starter: Cam Newton | Signed through: 2020
Tier: Locked-in vet | Ranking in tier: No. 9

Contract: Five-year, $103.8 million extension signed in June 2015, including $31 million guaranteed at signing.

Newton is coming back from his own shoulder issues, which casts at least some doubt on his short- and long-term future in Carolina. Contractually, the Panthers are in an excellent spot here, as Newton is guaranteed no money in either of the two remaining years of his contract and scheduled to earn just $16.2 million in salary this year and $18.6 million in 2020.

The Panthers would carry just $8.5 million in dead money if they were to cut Newton before the 2019 season, and just $2 million if they cut him after it. Assuming he bounces back healthy and performs well this season, Newton will be in line for an extension next summer. But as with Luck, the contract means the team is in control.

full cam believer and supporter. Hope to god he balls out

but last season was very concerning and another season Cam not being able to throw for seasons lengths means he is most likely done a panther

a QB has to be able to throw. what made Cam Cam was being able to lazer the ball and chuck it deep

Cam can't hold anything back this season.  Dive on fumbles, fight for rushing yards, all the little things.  He's never going to be one of the top pocket passers, but if he can show grit and will in sacrificing his body, then he puts himself in the best chance to lock up another big contract.

What are you talking about? He's always sacrificed his body

You obviously haven't been watching or paying attention to any games have you. Cam has put his body on the line constantly sacrificing it in just about every game he has played. You may just learn a thing or two if you would watch games instead of spouting off things you have zero knowledge on.

Here’s a question for you...

Say his shoulder just isn’t right and within a year or two he knows he won’t be a starting QB anymore...

Does he retire or does he become a hybrid RB/TE/WR/Wildcat?

I could see him having a ton of value into his mid to late 30’s as a gadget type player and goal line back.

Cam was on fire before he got hurt. The o line fell apart around him. Hopefully he’s fixed now and go back to Superman form

He was on fire in terms of being accurate, but the deep ball hasn't been right for 2+ years.

Cam can be a top 10 QB even at 85-90%, but he can't be MVP caliber again unless he can uncork the deep ball.

Cam's 2015 season is still so underrated.  He could kill you across the entire field both running and passing.  He was a dual- homerun threat every single down.  There has never been another year where a QB did that.  Unfortunately, there may never be one again either unless Cam's shoulder is right.

Cam at 90% can be an effective QB.  But the team shouldn't commit to the insane $30M+ per year QB's are getting unless he can be at that level.

It is forever laughable the Falcons paid Matty Meltdown $30M and he needs five 1st Rounders on the Oline to be effective.

The not diving narrative is the laziest and most BS narrative I think that has ever been launched someone.  Cam obviously was playing the chance the ball would bounce.

Any couch goober can play slow motion and say this or that.  It happened at warp speed.

Cam did plenty for us to win.  That game is 100% on bad coaching and playcalling.

    • Not sure how much he was a long term piece of this team.   Sucks to not have him as part of the rotation.   Looks like it's Lee Hunter time.
    • This post was an error. Oops and sorry for the errors in the previous one. Too slow to edit.   We’ll see what they do.
    • I am not sure he will put the over the games but we’ll probably have them.   Two things I am thinking.  We have 4 preseason games.  All the coaches have enough service time to know the standards that are in place for decades. If I recall it was play your starters just a series to start woth and build it up until week theee where play a lot and you have week four to set hour roster. Evaluate before cuts.   Bevell will certainly have the whole thing down pat.   I’d they don’t do the fries and frie air will worry too. Because it is set up to do that.     I have said since they went t three preseason people have to figure a new way are still feeling it out and trying things.  We don’t have to this year.
