Should we have a problem with Malik Monk not playing in the Summer league?

Monk has slowly becoming a bust.  Apparently hasn't developed yet still having to spend time in Greensboro

But he wont play in the summer league?  Where he can get more pt and try to develop and work?

When Bacon (who is Way ahead of him in development) is out there playing.  But Monk won

When his own teammates are trying to get him to go out there and play.....but he wont

Should we have a problem?  This guy, who should be stepping in already and now with Kemba gone.  A guy who already has a fanbase wanting to see something after passing on Donavon Mitchell for him.  A guy who still had to spend time in Greensboro last year, but wont play in thebsummer league

Summer League is a fun opportunity where the guys can practice by actually getting game experience (which should be a lot of fun for them).

I'm not saying Malik isn't working on his game right now but if given the opportunity to practice in a game situation verses just running drills, I feel like most guys would choose the game. If he's not willing to work on his craft in a game situation he may not even be working on his game at all right now.

Malik seems to have the same attitude that Frank had before Frank realized his NBA future was on the line.

The Hornets need more guys who are willing to work hard as talent alone isn't going to get it done in the NBA.

Unless he has a particularly good reason for not playing, then it is something that is of concern. If he doesn't, I would hope that he is diligently working on his own to improve his game in this offseason. Perhaps he views some of his private workouts/training as more productive than playing in a little bit of a pick up setting.

If not, however, it will be a pretty clear indicator of what the fans have seen, that he is destined to be a bust.

it is insulting to have him play on the summer league.. let him get solid minutes this year and watch..

the 2019 Summer League is not going to turn his career around..

Is it though.

Its not required for guys in there 3rd year.  But most of the guys who dont go in their 3rd year are guys who are already solid rotational guys in the league.  Monk was still spending time in the G-league and the staff said he still had work to do.

Him not doing it send out the message

A. He's too good, which he is far from (again pointed out Bacon participating in it and he is further along than Monk)

B. He just doesnt care

    • Sometimes its fun to read the threads/posts.  The panthers could literally hire a groundskeeper and we'd have a thread "improving the field for no other reason to prop up Bryce Young".  Apparently no move is ever done to actually make the team better.  All a conspiracy to just focus on Bryce Young. Or suddenly daydreaming and reminiscing about Sam Darnold when he was hated more than Bryce Young.  Its really fun to do a message board search about Darnold during that time period.   Or thinking there is just a tree that grows QB, and you can just easily go up and pluck one.
    • Yeah okay. We as an organization have been more patient with him than many. And there has been a small parade of guys drafted since he was, also to bad teams, that have passed him. Some have lapped him. As a fan I am out of patience but he gets this year it is out of my hands always has been. I just hope the bar is higher than it has been for him.    FWIW, XL dropped two passes last year. He did do some other bad stuff, just saying.
    • Except it takes those QB's a few years to develop because they needed to learn the mental side of the game and have it catch up to their physical attributes. Bryce was supposed to be a QB savant who already had a fully developed mental side of the game and that was going to make up for his lack of physical ability.  And his lack of NFL level QB physical traits has been clear as day to anyone who has watched him the last 3 years, mainly, he just doesn't have an NFL arm, he can't zip the ball into tight spaces or throw on a line down the field like is needed at this level.
