Barnwell picks us as one of the 5 teams most likely to improve in 2019.  He also picks the Jets and the Giants so he might not so good at football stuff.

He was right about our regression last season, even if the cause was off. He makes statistical inferences which gives some semblance of realism to the annual claims made in this column.

I respect any journalist who either uses relevant statistical data or immerses themselves in intensive film study to draw conclusions. There’s really no other way to do it right.

He could do what everyone else does at ESPN...

Barnwell is one of the few, if only ESPN writers I like.  And I am not just saying that because of this particular article.  When he has his off season type articles based around things like "top 5 off season moves each team should pursue", he is actually quite accurate.  Yes, often a team's biggest off season moves are well known if you actually follow the team..but thats my point.  Most national writers don't.  Which lends to some hilariously inaccurate predictions/"insight".    The fact he makes an attempt to be even somewhat up to date on more than just the generic big market teams is (unfortunately) huge.

It would not shock me to see the Panthers win 14 games this year.

It also would not shock me to see them win 4.

It is gonna be that kind of year.

A Lot swings on that OL and Cam's shoulder holding up the whole season

    • Right and I think we can have a conversation about that. But even with the scheme he should still be able to muster more than 1.5 sacks right? I mean DJ Johnson played in Evero's scheme too but that didn't stop us from calling him a bust. Scourton didn't seem to have trouble flashing. There can be different things true at one time.
    • I assume you are quoting my still. If so, I don't know what your argument is since mine was simply showing a play where Bryce scored a TD against the Rams in the playoffs where another poster used a similar still of Herbert's line to defend his poor performance last night. Like I said, Herbert is a better QB but Bryce wins the game last night for the Chargers. It simply is something he does better than Herbert and would play to his strengths. Someone even said earlier Chargers only win 1 or 2 games this year if Bryce was their QB which is so absurdly laughable it wasn't even worth trying to address. I mean this thread is literally called "Bryce Young is the worst QB in Panther's History" so I understand there is no objective arguments to be had here but I found that amusing.
    • I think his knee would make a good reason to switch to guard IF he returns.  Half don't.  Half of those don't last too long.  The strain on a knee (320lb man) vs speed rushers is more substantial.  So I would keep him if I could on a small contract (he will make $17.5 in 2026 fully guaranteed) and think of him as a possible guard for the post Lewis/Hunt era.  Knee injuries in big men are not invitations to invest in them.
