If you are David Tepper and Ron Rivera ends the season.....

A franchise with a history of never having a coach get us back to back winning seasons some of you all have crazy expectations and eagerness to fire panthers most winningest coach in history. You ignore the injuries you ignore the dave gettleman blunders and cap hits Ron had to watch and endure. I would advise to have someone to have on a watch list with a higher success rate to replace. Also Tepper likes Tomlin and if he's out in Pittsburgh expect Tomlin to get a crack here if Ron is out. I believe Ron knew what team he had last year and it was a damn good one. We were looking like a new elite team last year. Ron will get us 10 wins and keep his job. My prediction. hardest division in football. If we were in AFC East we would be neck and neck with the pats and probably make playoffs every year too. Lol

I think that depends on how the loss happens. 10-6 is great in the NFC South, but if they just fall flat in the playoffs it may be time to consider a change.

HOWEVER, most likely anyone we would face in the playoffs on the NFC side would be capable of winning it all. So it just depends on the nature of the loss. If he is just blatantly out coached then it’s time for new blood.

If it’s a tight battle with a great team and we come up just short, I see no reason to give him the boot.

So you keep him and Hurney together?

Also do you give him one more year (lame duck season) or extend him?

It's not considered a lame duck season when he is coaching for his job.  The last year Fox was here was a lame duck season because JR said he would not be returning after the season no matter what he did.

The record for teams Ron and Hurney have put together are:

6-10

7-9

7-9

If they put another clunker together, Marty is gone at the very least. If the defense doesn’t perform (most expensive D line in the league), Ron’s ass is gone along with Hurney.

Talent evaluation (finding diamonds in the rough), coaching, and game plan strategy are what wins games these days and Tepper knows if. I really think when a superior option (GM or coach) becomes available, he’s going to make a move regardless of record.

In complete fairness here . . . the team that went 12-4 in 2013 was 99% Marty Hurney.  The only notable acquisitions that year were Star and KK.  Not to downplay the impact of those two at all, but seriously it just shows how the difference between 7-9 and 12-4 is incredibly thin.

And to the original topic . . . you don't fire a coach that just went 10-6.  You let him coach that lame duck year and see if he can produce back to back winners.  If he does, you re-up him.  At that point, you simply can't fire a coach who:  Is a 2 time coach of the year, has taken your team to the SB, won back to back NFC South titles and produced your first back to back winning seasons.  I mean, it's obvious right?

On the other hand, if we miss the playoffs or go 8-8 (or worse), then it would take some pretty serious extenuating circumstances to see him stick around.  Perhaps something like losing Luke and Cam for the season in the first four games to see him stick if just for the lame duck year.

I just wonder what the direction from Tepper was with all the 1 year free agent deals that are being passed around. The amount of free agents we have after this season is crazy.

Some of this may be due to the uncertainty with the CBA, remember it expires after next season.  Marty / Tepper may be hedging their bets against not being sure what the cap structure may look like in the near future.

We shouldn't even be having this conversation, but here we are.

If Ron doesn't win the division this year, it's time for a change.  We are at a MAJOR crossroads at the moment.  We have some high priced vets (quite a few who are underperforming), and a lot of younger unsigned talent.

A deep playoff run, or a complete tear down from the top to the bottom.  I think those are your options at this point.
