NFL: Patriots could be facing significant penalties

If you want the Pats to stop cheating, you have to actually hurt them.

Ban Bill from the team for the rest of the season and post season.

Make him have to beg to be reinstated in the offseason.

That's the only way the cheating will stop.

No.

Ban Bill from the league for life. He runs the team.

Period.

He has been caught doing this exact thing plus other forms of cheating repeatedly. It is beyond obvious he respects neither his opponents nor the concept of fair competition. He has never demonstrated remorse or regret for his actions in the past but has always taken positions that show he thinks others are stupid.

His arrogance means the only way to ensure he won’t cheat is to ensure he won’t ever be in position to do so again.

Ban him.

For life.

Now.

Anything less is a half measure.

The big boys never get penalized. That's the lesson of the past couple of decades in football and life in general. There will be a slap on the wrist of a few hundred thousand bucks (and that's chump change to the organization), perhaps the loss of a middle draft pick (and how many picks do they have stockpiled?), and then it won't be mentioned again.

So what if they've been caught cheating three times now (and we mean organized, pre-planned, off field cheating)? You and I could easily agree they've probably done much more without ever being caught.

I feel fairly certain you could show them video evidence coupled with confessions from all the parties involved and they'd probably either still deny it or try to make it out like it's not a big deal.

That kind of behavior seems incredibly... Presidential?

Off with their heads!

In truth, I'll believe it when I see it.  The NFL has become the WWE under Goodell, and this is just the latest version of the villain sneaking a chain saw into the ring.

Y’all do realize he’s stripped them of 1st round picks before... right?  And suspended Brady?

Goodell has never had an issue punishing the Patriots

Perception is funny.

Outside of Foxboro, fans think the league has never been hard enough on the Patriots.

Ask any of their fans and they'd tell you the league is constantly looking to screw them over.

I work with a buddy who is a pats fan. He swears up and down that it was misconstrued, not taping on purpose, etc., like the  cameraman here is saying. It would be hysterical, if it weren't so damn sad to watch the denial flowing so profusely.

Dr. Phil remains on TV for a reason.

So what will Vince McMahon, uh, Roger Goodell do this time?  Losing draft picks and cash is not enough, apparently.  How about salary cap dollars?

The NFL takes these matters very seriously and has regularly taken away draft picks and used fines and suspensions for similar infractions,

I dont see any of these remedies as taking it seriously.  Taking it seriously would be banning them from post season play.  period.

I always chuckle when guilty parties claim to have been unfairly targeted. Luke, yes we're guilty as charged but we still claim to be unfairly targeted. Wait... what?

In this case, it's even more absurd. They weren't even targeted by the NFL. They were turned in by a fellow team after getting caught red handed.

I have a good buddy that is a Saints fan and he thinks the entire NFL is out to get the Saints. Regardless of the fact that they literally had a bounty scheme running....

Used to watch games with a Cowboys fan who was also a huge conspiracy theorist, believed the whole fake moon-landing story and everything.

You can imagine some of the theories he had :)

After being carried to a Lombardi post-Katrina, the Saints should never complain about officiating again... yet, they still bitched and moaned their way into having the challenge rules rewritten for them this off-season. Fug everything about the Saints and their cesspool of a city.
