Rhule might equal Rhebuild

Word was Rhule wanted pretty significant control if he was hired. Obviously Tepper agreed to that.

And what's he known for?

Rebuilding bad programs from the ground up.

This definitely isn't a "win now" hire. It looks more like a "strap in for the long haul" type of choice. Tepper had expressed before the process even started that it might take "a period of losing" in order to create a perennial winner. He also acknowledged that it takes college coaches time to adjust to the NFL. Seeing as Rhule was given a seven year contract, it sounds like he's willing to give him significant time.

Basically, if you're expecting a quick turnaround, you might not wanna hold your breath.

Can someone help come up with a list of NFL players who were coached by Rhule at either Temple or Baylor and see if there are any free agents or guys worth getting? Makes me wonder how he’s gonna build the team/culture. Also curious how many guys panned out from his programs.

To quote our old buddy Foxy, it is what it is...

Or to quote early Ron.... it is what it is is no more...

Regardless, it is obvious a culture change was needed in the worst kind of way.

I have zero expectations for next season.

I am excited by the Rhule hire

I love the Panthers, and as much as I hate the idea of another 2010, I'm also a realist who objectively sees a roster with major holes.

I would love to be able to compete without a rebuild next year, but I'm mentally prepared for that possibility.

His Wikipedia page has a list.

The majority of them aren't names you'd easily recognize.

Time will tell. What the Panthers desperately needed was a change in philosophy and culture. Go up by 14 points and play conservative football. Unprepared and sluggish after a bye. Passing out vet days like Oprah. Lack of accountability and tailoring our game plan to expose opponent weaknesses. I am all for getting rid of coaches and players that are unwilling to adapt.

    • You guys are just going to have to accept the fact that Dan Morgan is a mid GM best case scenario currently. I used to have people get very belligerent over defending Scott Fitterer too. And that's not hyperbole. People used to go to bat for that guy like he was blood related. We have a truckload invested in the OL and what do we have to show for it? The whole unit is already banged up including one of our big signings. Even without all that the group has largely taken a step back from last year in pass protection. Then you get to the QB room and there's only two conclusions you can make about Dan Morgan. Either he deliberately ignored it two years in a row on his own accord or he took orders from Tepper to do so. Either scenario says he's not fit to be an NFL GM.
    • Frank, ceding control of the defense in no way verifies that Tepper told Canales to bench Young.    It certainly buttresses the idea that Canales would need permission to bench him but that is as far as you can take it.    After that it is pure speculation and it doesn’t make sense.
    • Uhh, okay yes that happened. I didn’t like the pick either I am a 3rd or later RB guy. Always. Actually hated the CMC pick too. Hated the Stewart pick.  No one wants to talk about trading the #39 in that draft and what he did with that.  Got #52, #155, and the Rams 2025 2nd to boot.   The 52 and 155 plus our 142 5th rounder to go up for a Brooks Everyone wants to forget about the 2025 2nd for that Rams trade  which was used to move up for Scourton.  That Rams trade down was a great deal for us.
