This ain't your daddy's Panthers

Some constants over all or most of the Panthers 25 year existence:

- Defensive head coaches since day one
- Head coaches with NFL pedigrees (college coaches need not apply)
- An NFL logo in the middle of the field rather than a team logo
- Ryan Vermillion, head trainer for the Panthers since 2002
- Rob Rogers, with the Panthers since 1995, served the past ten seasons as their top contract negotiator and salary cap manager
- Of course, Jerry Richardson (still with us in statue if not in person, or in spirit, or well...anything)
- And lastly, a player or coach with the last name "Mills"

None of those things  are true anymore.

Further departures, like that of executives, scouting staff and even GM Marty Hurney (in place for the majority of the team's history) are possible.

By the time they field again this September, the team on the field and the organization as a whole will be set to look significantly different from what we've known and found familiar.

Might be better. Might be worse.

Definitely gonna be different.

The Panthers didn't even exist when my dad last cared about football. I've been with this team since the beginning.  This isn't my Carolina Panthers.    Which may be a good thing.

My dad never did, so ditto.

We can claim what we want with words, but stats show Rhule is a defensive minded head coach. His teams excelled in defense and special teams. Offense was what lagged behind.

I honestly didn't last this season with Ron. For better or for worse, very glad to see a fresh approach.

My father has never been to a football game, as far as I know, never watched one from start to finish in his life until a few years ago.  He knows that I'm watching the Panthers no matter what, so he started watching them so we can hang out on Sundays here and there.

We have always boated, fished, dove, etc. together, but football was NEVER on in the house growing up, now it's on in his kitchen every Sunday.
