Updated Cap Moving Forward & Free Agent Priorities....

Even with the dead cap space from Kuechly's retirement, we have just over 30M available in cap space - with some opportunities to create more via cuts, adding a year to a current deal, restructure, etc. (Of which Matt Kalil accounts for almost half 9.8M thanks DG)

Hahah yea...a cheap, tough negotiator with no cap Gettle is why we signed Kalil, an absolute anomaly sticking out like a sore thumb compared to everything he did here...

had nothing to do with a fan favorite and meddling business minded owner

the huddle to so gullible it kills me

Littleton accounted for 3M in 2019, he's 26 years old

I'd say on the market he's probably eyeing the 7M+ range per year -- I don't think that's a move we pull the trigger on with the opportunity to draft a guy like Simmons.

I think it would make more since to sign a quality FA at ILB as insurance for the draft, unless you're comfortable with either,

  • Jermaine Carter Jr.
  • Andre Smith

Both guys going into their 3rd years, and much more cap friendly (this may be a see what we have season for one of them, Smith had early draft pedigree pre-collegiate injury)

Then if Simmons is the pick you don't have a chunk of cap tied up in the ILB position, and can move on / extend as needed.

I just think its smarter and cheaper to sign a stud linebacker than to pay a DT. Especially when we can draft one in Brown in the first. Much cheaper than signing a star DT

Davis saves us exactly $3m, and Gano saves $1.46m with $3m dead. Primary reason to cut Gano would be to keep a different kicker on the roster, not necessarily for cap room.

No-brainers then, Graham might actually have so trade value. Not a lot of good experienced kickers out there.

The main thing we need to do in FA this year is nothing stupid.

We are starting a rebuild, so no big signings with delusions of grandeur unless they are about as young as possible to enter the FA market.  We are NOT three, six, or ten players away from being a championship contender right now.

Don't restructure anybody, take whatever hits we need to take this year and get it over with.

I don't know if Hurney is capable of that.

You only sign enough bodies to field a team next season.  Build from the draft for the next 2 season and reevaluate.  Rinse and repeat.

I want to develop Burns/Miller, and let Irvin/McCoy go.  In free agency we should grab some DTs and secondary.

Agree. And I’d add retain Poe - he’s still got a little left in the tank and may cost more to cut him. Draft a DT (Kinlaw) and build depth via FA or the later rounds of the draft to stock the DL.

I'd like to trade KK.  Not sure what we would get, maybe a 2nd?  But trade KK, trade down a few spots in the draft picking up an additional 2nd.  Use our 1st, and the now 3x 2nd round picks on DL/OL.  Thats gonna go a long way towards rebuilding this team.

    • He has rarely been aggressive enough to be considered a gunslinger type player. The guy he is describing is Pat Mahomes-esque and I doubt any of us see that in Bryce.  When the play is breaking down or he bails on the play, how often are we really seeing him laser it into a tight window? How about scramble long enough to get someone breaking free and then hitting them? I remember that far less, although I am not sitting down to look at all 2.5 years of data, than I am checkdowns, throw aways, off target passes, scrambles, etc.
    • Wow this is some crazy nonsense. First, he doesn't have problems picking up the ball on quick slants or screens, go back and watch the replays, you can clearly see him start to turn his head on those drops before the ball is in his hands, it's a concentration issue, not an issue of picking up the ball. Yes, it's 100% something he has to improve upon and it's still a knock on him, but you're making up a problem that isn't there, when the real problem that is there is a very correctable one and also one that is rather common for a player 6 games into his career and trying to do too much. After that, I genuinely don't understand what your point is in bringing up where he ranks in YPC, as if that's some indicator of his abilities.  Which, to begin with, he's not 31st, he's 26th (and that's before even factoring in the players above him with just a handful of catches, like Horn Jr with his 4 catches).  Then below him in that YPC ranks are guys like Chase, CeeDee, London, Tyreek, Waddle, Higgins, BTJ, Wilson etc, so I'm not sure what pointing out his ranking has anything to do with what kind of player he is or might become.  All of that before even looking how close he is to being much higher on the list because they're all so close together, he's 27 yards across 6 games shy from being in the Top 15. If you want to pick and choose stats, why not look at things like being 3rd in the NFL in catches of 20+ yards or 6th in the NFL in 1st down catches? And finally, no, just no.  He doesn't look far less pro ready than Egbuka, he's just in a significantly worse situation if you're just looking for a big statistical output.  Egbuka is playing with the current front runner for MVP, in a pass happy offense, where all their other pass catchers keep getting hurt, so of course he's going to be putting up big stats.  Swap those players and T-Mac might be leading the NFL in yards right now, not to mention would have just as many TD's as Egbuka does as well.
    • How about if you don't like my choice of content, then don't click on the thread? We're discussing the NFL, not Pee-wee football. Until we start having "great" games on a continuous basis, I'm going to continue to talk all facets of the team. Moreover, I haven't seen X have a "great" game yet. Just like I supported patience last season, I have become critical this season. If it hurts your feelings, it just hurts your feelings. I've been on this board longer than most of you, and I've been a fan of the Panthers since before they stepped on the field, so don't tell me how to fan.
