REPORT! Panthers GM Marty Hurney "refused to answer several" questions about Cam Newton’s future with the team.

I think he will be ready before the draft which is when we would be considering trading him. He would have to be healthy before you could get any value. I doubt we would release him unless the Panthers felt he wouldn't be healthy.  I suspect they are gauging him as we speak and well aware about where he is at this point.

This is a non statement, but I think the point is that Hurney understands the speculation surrounding Cam and did not make an effort to clear it up---what he does not say could be telling.  "He is rehabbing (a fact that cannot be disputed.)  That is all I can say."

No it is not.  He is under contract through 2020.  You could say that he is the starting QB and he is getting ready for next year.  He is our starter...etc.  If "he is rehabbing" is all you can say, then what you can't say speaks volumes.

Now compare what Marty just said about Cam to what he said about Peppers in 2009, when Peppers was begging for a trade:

"We've known Julius for seven years, and it has been a good seven years," Hurney said. "I think he knows how we feel, and we feel like he's been happy here. And again, nothing has changed. We franchised him, and when we did, we knew there was a period for the process to take place. When that process goes through, then he's going to be back."

Can we detect a different tone?

To be fair, despite the bullsh-t "mutual agreement" story, that was the team's decision, not Greg's.

Exactly. It was the team’s decision. The team got rid of Olsen. They will do the same with Cam  Newton.

It’s entirely possible Hurney doesn’t have the power to decide if Cam is returning and if so, then that really is all he can say.

I’m certain Rhule has more say than Hurney over it
