3 winning rosters in 14 seasons as GM.

I blame Hurney for 2006, 2009, 2010 and 2012.

Major injuries derailed 2004, 2007, 2018, 2019.

2002 was pretty much a success and I can’t fault Hurney for not reaching the playoffs with a rookie qb (2011).

Have to put things into perspective.

Marty's only under contract through this coming season.

If Tepper is actually dumb enough to give him an extension, I'll probably be ready to paraphrase Dante and say abandon all hope of building a winner.

Where have you seen terms of his contract? I’ve been googling it and haven’t seen anything.

By "perspective" he means, "it's everybody's fault but Marty's".

Back in 2018, Richardson signed Rivera to a two year deal. Word at that time was that Marty got the same deal. It was considered Richardson's parting shot. I don't remember if it was officially disclosed, but that was the story.

Mind you, there are plenty of people who believe that Marty will get reassigned or replaced after this year's draft regardless.

Color me skeptical as Hurney played a big roll in choosing our HC.  Not something an owner is likely to do if he has serious doubts about his GM.

I tend to agree with this 90% of the time. I think this might be the rare exception. I can see us hiring a new GM and Tepper keeping Hurney in a “Dwight Schrute, assistant to the manager” role.

I think Tepper see’s him as an experienced guy in the NFL with a strong eye for talent evaluation (Regardless of how we might feel. And there’s some merit. He’s drafted some serious first round talent. It just doesn’t add up with the other 6 rounds so I’m still a big time doubter) and someone he frankly needs.

Tepper might recognize Hurney isn’t a great NFL GM but they may have developed a good personal relationship and Tepper might feel he’s someone he can bounce his opinion off of and get honest answers from.

That’s how I’m seeing it now. Hell, Hurney may well play a role in hiring a new GM. Hurney might be the new best friend. Tepper might recognize he’s not the best GM but he is the guy he can go to with questions. I think Hurney is on the verge of getting a very untraditional role in the NFL and I imagine his opinion of staff hires is probably part of that role.

Marty Schrute; Assistant to the regional manager.

When someone starts bitching about a US president, I ask them for things they liked about them. And vise versa. If they aren’t able to list anything, their opinion is baseless, subjective and worthless. It’s not black and white, no one is perfect,  and the view certainly is not objective.

Will someone plz show me this superb record in the draft and where is all this great talent he evaluated

go look at our draft history during his tenure, where he drafted basically our entire core

if you want i'll list some for you

the verdict is still out on the 2018-19 classes (though dj moore is already really good so i included him)

(not listing 2001, since some disagree on if he was the main voice. only listing picks which would be considered "good", decent ones like getting depth later in the draft: mcclain in the 7th round, daley in the 6th and benwiekere in the 5th around etc. not included)
rd 1: julius peppers, jordan gross, chris gamble, thomas davis, deangelo williams, jon beason, stewart, cam newton, luke kuechly, dj moore,

rd 2: deshaun foster, ryan kalil, donte jackson, kawann short

rd 3: will witherspoon (good pick for round 3), travelle wharton, evan mathis (wasnt great here but still became a good player), james anderson, charles johnson,

rd 5: geoff handgartner, gary barnidge, josh norman

rd 6: greg hardy

rd 7: geoff scwartz and mackenzie barndeau (both were good depth lineman, starters in some cases), captain munnerlyn,

id be happy with keeping him around in an assistant role, he can definitely scout, and hurney  really isnt that bad outside of the first round as this board would like you to believe he is. he'd be a great scout and person to take advice from (as someone else pointed out in this thread), maybe not the best gm, but tepper is spot on with his comments of him being a good talent evaluator.

Hurney, who has a superb track record in the draft and a proven eye for finding talent.

steve harvey wtf GIF

Hurney is that sales rep at your company that wins 1 big account per year then fugs up every other account he touches through shear incompetence losing the company more money than what they earned with the 1 account but still walks around like he's the alpha dog because he got "the big one".

Donte isn't good and Short was a Gettleman pick.

Also the vast majority of those picks outside of the 1st were guys taken pre 2009. Damn near everyone after that was garbage. I count 4 decent picks outside round 1 post 2009, and that's including Donte Jackson. So in 6 drafts (2009-2012, 2018, 2019), he took 4 people that weren't complete garbage outside round 1.

That's below average talent evaluation to me.
