Trai Turner is being shopped around, per ESPN

I don't think we cut / trade him this year.  Doesn't make $$ sense.  However, I fully expect him to be out next year unless he turns back into a monster this year.  No way we're paying him $11 million base salary in 2021.

Btw hurney is horrible at contract negotiations Jesus . Every year he here it seem like we first in dead cap salary smh

The dead cap is not really Hurney contracts -- do some research: https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/carolina-panthers/cap/

  • Luke Kuechly - 11M - Retired
  • Matt Kalil - 9.8M - Dave Gettleman contract
  • Greg Olsen - 3.7M - (But saved about 8M)

The rest of the guys on the list are basically inconsequential, we had 4 players as of this AM making more than 10M - Cam, KK, Trai, and Poe's option is reported to be declined. That will leave us with 3 players with salaries over 10M in 2021; pending what we do in FA, which I expect to be modest.

In raw numbers cutting or trading KK, or Trai would be roughly a savings of 3M each, after subtracting salary vs savings, if you are Cam you should want to be here for the next window, he's 30 and we seem to have a staff in place looking to play modern football. This would be an ideal location not to mention.

If the cap is managed well over the next two seasons, and the drafts / FA's pan out, we should be much better off.

Also, I don't believe the report, just like I didn't believe the Cam trade talk to CHI, or LAC.

Coach said if it's to make the team better they'd look at anything, I think this is someone running with a story. The final year of Turner's deal is in 2021, and his dead cap vs savings would them open just under 6M in savings. Makes way more sense to make a trade / move next season considering we'd double the savings.

And if you want a throw in, KK's contract also ends after 2021, his savings would only go up by 1M to 4M if traded, or released. And at that point with their base salaries, odds are they would be cap casualties and released. Doubt we'd find trade partners.

    • I mean, no I’m not going to panic when he got 2 Qs and looked great in 1 and looked not great in another (let’s not mention the drop).    Yeah we finally have a team that would be considered average offensively around him. Let’s roll this season.
    • The woe is me everything but Bryce sucks mantra is stale af my friend. Look nobody here is going to argue with the fact Frank Reich was not a good head coach. At the same time. Bryce Young is now in his second season with his second coaching staff and a handpicked young offensive head coach who has been known for working with QB's such as Baker and Geno. As far as the offensive pieces around Bryce we have the 4th highest salary cap allocation (that might be even higher now after the new Moton deal) dedicated to the OL in the entire league. We have 2 first round WR's one of them 8th overall the first time we've ever selected a WR that high in franchise history. And the fact of the matter is Bryce Young did not have a good preseason. It's not the first time it's happened either. We all hope to see he and the rest of the team flip a switch in week 1. But we should all be able to agree that the offensive performances we've seen from the entire QB room (Bryce included) in preseason was simply unacceptable.
    • We have seen Bryce play… what… 9 games with AT BEST what one would consider NFL average WRs? You just can’t see the forest for the trees and keep going back to your lazy take of revisionist history.    he looked AWFUL Y1 with the worst coaching I’ve ever seen in the NFL and one of the weakest WR rooms I can recall. He looked awful first half of y2 and great second half of y2 with average coaching and average skill position. I don’t know where this elite talent argument even comes from.
