We Ain't Going Defense @ 7

Recommended Posts

Let's go defense @ #7 ... right ... so NFL rules can hand-cuff yet another star defensive player. The NFL does not care about defense anymore. Defensive football is nearly defunct - and it should be completely defunct in any NFL city that has CAM NEWTON as it's QB .. for near a decade Cam single-handedly carried a bunch of nobodies on offense with a defense hand-cuffed by NFL rules.

Luke Kuechly had been rendered useless the last two seasons and he played 16 games each of the last two seasons so it is not like he was injured - he was in his prime and still one of the worst defenses in the NFL.

If we draft Simmons or Brown - it will be like adding one drop of water to a bottle of Sun Drop .. even if that drop of water is the most pure, best water on Earth, it is still only a drop - and it won't have any effect on the Sun Drop ..

If Kuechly had no impact what makes people think a rookie DT or rookie LB will.

And uh .. contrary to popular belief, we are equipped to win now. 2020. Have any of you people ever heard of the term "sand-bagging" - it's what David Tepper and the Panthers are doing.

We have had a very offense focal off-season to this point - I expect that to continue when we draft Jerry Jeudy in April and trot a healthy Cam out with CMC, Moore, Samuel, Jeudy, and Thomas ..

Yeeeeeaaaaaaah .. Panthers are winning Super Bowl 55 and none of you will have saw it coming except me. Cam will be the greatest QB to ever play this game. Shame on all of you.

So by this logic, the NFL is intentionally handcuffing defenses, therefore the Panthers should draft lesser talented guys to remedy that?  I guess the OP wants shades of a NBA All-star game.  We can expect to see scores like 70-63 regularly next year since nobody should be concerned with defense.

    • This is a good take it really is to the point dc needs to let the world see the real byoung b/c right now everyone in the media and tepper has had blinders on when it comes to young.  Its hard to even know where the panthers are at skill player wise with such horrible qb play.  I doubt it but legette may be a probowl wr he just cant throw the ball and catch it.  I am just so sick of every excuse in the book for byoung.  LIstened to a podcast and the guy was going over how many different options byoung had on the int and all of them were ok except for the one where he threw an int.  He said the play could be run by a hs qb and they would typically make a good decision.
    • I certainly have my complaints about Canales but I'm not ready to fire him yet for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, Tepper has made this one of the least appealing jobs in the league. Morgan and Canales are here to begin with in large part because guys higher on the wish list take other jobs. If you fire Canales you're gonna end up replacing him with another third tier candidate who wasn't being seriously considered by other teams with openings. That's just the reality of the situation right now as far as I can tell. Secondly, despite plenty of room for critique, we are 6-6 despite the worst QB play in the league. That's really damn hard to pull off in the modern NFL. Especially when your D isn't dominant. Our D is greatly improved but is still a slightly below average overall defense ranking 18th in yards per game allowed and 20th in points allowed. Going 6-6 with atrocious QB play and slightly below average defensive play is pretty damn impressive. Even more impressive when you also factor in that we're in the red on turnovers differential at -3. When you combine league worst QB play with slightly below average D and negative turnover differential honestly you'd expect to be in play for the #1 overall pick, not 6-6 and having just played a game that a win would have you leading the division. So yeah, even though I'm far from sold I advocate for patience with Canales for the time being. If you ask me if I'm bringing him back next year, I'm a yes barring a catastrophic meltdown down the stretch which admittedly is very much a possibility.
