You asked what my deal was earlier... well, pretty much this. People being selfish fuging assholes because they feel like the odds are heavily in their favor if they contract this virus while showing a complete and utter disregard for all of the elderly, immunocompromised, etc. out there who run a much higher risk of developing severe illness from this virus. I didn't see much of this at all in CO. In the week I've spent in NC, it seems to be the prevalent attitude despite people by and large being a lot fatter and likely a far higher percentage of people with significant risk factors like diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, etc.

Can we not take care of the vulnerable and also go on with life and not tank the economy?  I dont see why we have to pick one. Set precautions,  enforce them, doesn't seem that hard.

The symptoms are different. The causes of death are different. There is testing to see which strain of virus you have. Doctor's and medical examiners aren't just randomly declaring causes of death based on the news.

Again, you know nothing of epidemiology, and the fact that you can't comprehend medical science doesn't mean you've stumbled onto a massive conspiracy.

Anyway, just a thought.

I will say this. The last time I went to see my doctor (3 weeks ago today) covid-19 got brought up. Disclaimer regarding my doctor, he has been a county medical examiner, oncology surgeon, president of several nursing homes, doctor at a prison, addiction doctor, so on. He told me that he asked (didn't say who, I didn't ask who) and was told not to worry about getting anyone tested, for covid-19, that had died. He was told to just put it down as a possible 2nd reason of death. He, also, believes that I had covid-19 starting on Feb. 7th. I had most of the tell tell signs of it.

Some people can do this. In theory it’s a great idea. Guess what? It doesn’t work like this. ReSpEK mUh FReEdOmS

The fact that wearing a mask has been politicized tells you all you need to know about the maturity , sense of responsibility, and general IQ of many law makers and citizens.

A ton of anecdotal stories going around like this.  Due to the uncertainty of everything going on in the country right now I wonder if people are just sitting on what they know and keeping quiet.  In the end, those folks tied to wrongdoing (profiteering/gross negligence) during this pandemic needs to see their day in court.

Yeah. By wearing masks and practicing social distancing.

This.

Some people are living in fantasy world. They want to basically lock up the elderly and people with conditions. Like a zoo. So they can go maskless and "get the economy running again" and go to the bar and make life normal again. Well ... what about the freedom of the elderly and people with conditions? Do they not get a life? Yes, they need to be cautious. And you know what will help them out with that? Look up at the quote.

Some folk act like wearing a mask is as bad as paying taxes, going to the dentist, moving, and [insert other annoying things here]. It's a thin piece of cloth. Get over yourself.

They haven't calculated what would actually happen if you told everybody in the risk pool to stay home.  From the data, the risk to "normal people" seems to start in the 40s and is definitely there in the 50s and 60s.  Take a look around and see how much of the workforce is in that age category.  In particular, leadership positions are in that age category.  If those people had to stay home, virtually all construction in this country would come to a halt, because so many of the superintendents, foreman, carpenters, drivers and operators are in that age range.

So no, you can't just lock up the higher risk people and go back to life as normal.  Its literally impossible.

Yeah, Same in SC, especially on the coast.  I don't think they allow mask in Charleston County.  I was down there for Memorial Day and saw 1 mask the 3 days I was there.

I live in Charleston. When I'm out and about, its about 50/50 most places. I did take my car to a local Pep Boys this weekend to get serviced and none of the Service Managers were wearing masks. I was only one in the place that was.

Edit: There does seem to be this belief that the beach is somehow immune. When I was at IOP, I saw very few people at the beach with masks.

Yep, I have family on IoP, it's another world out there.  It's like Corona doesn't and never did exist.

A good friend of mine is a hotel manager in NC and said I would not believe the survey complaints they got with their new rule changes to help stop the spread...people saying to stop the political bs, how it’s very unfriendly, etc. North Carolina is fuged.

To be fair not many people do the surveys unless they are upset about something.  Could be a vocal minority type situation
