The Final Numbers: 3 years, 63 million dollars for Teddy Bridgewater

The Panthers have a new quarterback.

The deal to make Teddy Bridgewater a Panther is done, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN, with the sides agreeing to a three-year, $63 million contract.

The Panthers allowed Cam Newton permission to seek a trade earlier Tuesday after they were deep in negotiations with Bridgewater’s representation.

Bridgewater has familiarity with Panthers offensive coordinator Joe Brady from their days together with the Saints before Brady went to LSU.

Bridgewater, 27, went 5-0 in place of Drew Brees last season, completing 67.9 percent of his passes for 1,384 yards with nine touchdowns and two interceptions.

He is 22-12 in his career as a starter.

True. I wonder if he is the building block that Rhule will take to the next level or a bridge for a rookie QB this year or next

I think Bridgewater is a better QB at the moment over Cam. Everyone here remembers 2015 Cam and has blocked out everything else. $20 million for a QB is cheap these days

Welcome to the era of 'so what's next' where getting better is pretty much expected.

With the market moving, that isn’t a whole lot to spend on a QB. There are enough weapons on this offense for him to be successful. The defense however, will be the problem. Let our next QB sit behind him while we “reTOOL” our defense and we might be headed in a good direction. Not excited about parting from Cam, but I think Bridgewater outplayed Brees last year.... at least late. I think we can contend with him at QB, but only if we get a good defense going. Reserving judgement til I see what we do on the defensive side.

More than likely a bridge to a drafted QB but a good guy to have around. Not gonna act mad and throw a hissy fit like some "grown adults" on here

Bridgewater was Kyle Allen in NO but luckily for him Brees came back before he was exposed like Allen

Technically, he may not be (hence the "bridge" talk).

The old saying goes that you don't wanna be the guy who replaces the superstar. You wanna be the guy who replaces the guy who replaced the superstar.

Whoever we end up drafting at quarterback this year or next is probably Newton's actual successor.
