I was thinking of someone Smith stiffarmed pretty good but I think you're right, I named the wrong opposing player. Stewart was the one who planted Barber.

Sorry but, Luke is the best player in franchise history.

I think Luke was the best actual football player.  At his peak, he was almost flawless.  Cant' say that about Pep or 89.  But that is a different statement than saying best in franchise history IMO.

Both Peppers and Smitty were more impactful.  They played more impactful positions but also had bigger impacts on the franchise as a whole.

I'd probably rank them

1. 89

2. Luke

3. Pep

Pep gets 3rd largely because he wore Packers and Bear uniforms.

You put Steve Smith in Jerry Rice's shoes, Steve would have buried his records.

No WR is close to Steve Smith and never will be. Pound for pound best WR ever.

I never want to hear about Jerry, TO, Julio Jones etc of muh stats.

None of them took a busted ass forearm in for a TD.

Steve Smith was the 5'9" version of MJ in the NFL.

I understand your reasoning behind it and an argument could be made. Luke, to me at least, was the heartbeat of that defense. He set the line, called the plays and audibled defenders into positions of success depending on the opponent set-up. To me, he was just as impactful on the field as any QB.

People who argue anyone else is the franchise's best player ever has forgotten how dominate Smith was. We have had some great players but nobody tops Steve Smith. Complete game changer with his playing ability and ability to get in defenders heads. Ice up son

People like smittys competitiveness and ferocious attitude, it’s flashy and easily memorable but he is not the GOAT for the franchise.

That belong to Peppers.

Smitty is tied with Luke for second.

Cam is 4th.

Smith is a first ballot hof, him being an analyst on the nfl network will help his “image” also. He’s still top 6-7 in rec yards and his postseason stats are up there with the greats like rice

AAANNNDDDD....  He holds the all-time record for sucker-punching unsuspecting teammates.

Cam did more to put the Panthers on the map than Smitty---Different positions, but Cam will probably not make the hall of fame-I do not think Smitty is first ballot.  Peppers on the other hand, is probably a first ballot Yellow jacket.

I also think Luke will be first ballot.  Any player who is the best at his position for 5-6 years is deserving.  That is twice as long as the average NFL career.

Best Panther player?  Depends how you measure it.
