Who is calling the defensive plays on defense this year?

Does every team have an on-field defensive play caller/audibler? I'm not so sure of that, and I think it's possible we won't have one. And even if we do and it is Shaq or something I'd think there's a great chance he won't have anywhere near the free reign that Luke did, and it'll be much more limited/controlled by the coaching staff. Luke's ability on the field alone was HoF worthy, but there's very few in the history of the league who had the mental command of the game that he did on the field. Peyton Manning is his offensive counterpart. It's rare you come across someone who can be that field general, and without one I'm sure we'll have at least a slightly different approach.

On a side note.... Earl Thomas was the field general/playcaller for the Seahawks D all those years they were elite, and guess who happens to be on his couch right now waiting for that call...

(not advocating for him; sarcasm)

    • Apparently CSW lost his starting job to Thornton last year. If he can stay healthy I bet Thornton keeps that NB position.
    • I member him staying after practices with only to see he was wearing heavy weight vest, one of his trademarks. He also put in 10 years, right? People forget he was the ST stud that called the snap and made sure everyone lined up right. He was one of the "glue" guys that bought his "lunch pail" to work.... He was a willing solider, all teams need a couple of them. He blocked for sooo many panthers RBs- Davis, lane, Williams, foster, goings and when there was huge injuries he took over the starter duties and had a couple 100 yard games. If you followed hoover, he took the perfect RB path cause he was just a slow heavy one himself....
    • Walker likely depends on a couple of things. What exactly did Dan promise him, to start with.  How much other interest he actually had for a starter job at high pay is another question. It isn’t outside the realm of possibility that he could stay on as a swing tackle waiting to take Moton’s spot when it opens.    I can’t get myself to consider Icky as a viable anything until we see him back on the field.     Hunt seems to be a team player and good guy but I don’t think he is worth what he is being paid. I have him tentatively earmarked for cap causality in the near future.
