Saxy Truths: Upward Trajectory

Folks, you're going to see the bitching.  You're going to see those sh*tting rainbows.

All I know is that for a new squad, coaches with zilch pro experience against a SB winning one, a team with an insane amount of turnover, poor defensive talent, and a respectable but average QB, I saw a lot of "it" with the way things have been structured.

This team didn't seem as stripped down as we thought.   It's about building a team, culture, organization.  It looked sound.  It looked reasonable for where my expectations were at.

YES.  We have a dogsh*t defense but there's clear growth.  We could hit a stride at some point this season if the DL picks it up but I think we showed some really solid cohesiveness for a season where we could have easily looked completely lost and clueless with so many unknowns.

Again, I'm not proclaiming we're good or anything but let's appreciate that there's a clear level of competency that we showed today.  Talent and lack of experience showed, but the level at which we came out swinging was super promising.  I look at let's say a Nagy, McD, Kingsbury, we actually looked a lot more polished than their squads were out of the gate and with such a weird offseason to factor in as well.

It's similar to the draftees that everyone knows are busts just after 3-5 practices.  This staff showed they're not in over their heads.  That wasn't bad.  We have a ton of room to improve but there was a baseline established that gives me confidence off the deck that we're not swelling away with some b*tch as$ staff and "transitional" period.

That's it.  I think a comfort level was established today.  Now let's see how they respond, not react.

Offense: Good

Special Teams: Bad

Defense: Ugly

Coaching was solid overall. Staff is definitely not in over their heads.

I was impressed with Brady's offense until that final series.

Now let's see if the team can grow from their mistakes.

Tampa does not seem in any way unbeatable

I couldnt watch live but from what I've seen it looked like Teddy had a pretty clean pocket today with time to throw

There were definitely some plays and even patches throughout the game (moreso during the middle of the game) where the protection was bad, but decent overall.

Teddy missed a few throws, and nobody will mistake his arm for prime Cam, but his control of the offense and ability to navigate the pocket even under some durress was good.

Offense left some points on the field, but nothint will matter if the defense can't improve.

I actually thought cooper looked great. Did we fumble? No. He will break one

Let’s be real. The Raiders are a very bad team. It’s not like the Panthers hung tough and almost beat a playoff team from last year. Or even a division opponent. They hung tough and almost beat a trash franchise with a has-been head coach at home. They honestly should have won this game. I can’t stress it enough, the Raiders are not a good team.

We might not see much optimism next week. The Panthers defense is going to look much worse against better teams. The Bucs have more talent on offense than the Raiders. Mike Evans and Chris Godwin are going to have big numbers against that secondary. Ronald Jones ran hard against the Saints. I didn’t see a single player on that defense that is capable of improving the run defense.

Its going to be a very very long season. The Panthers just blew the chance to win one of the most winnable games on the schedule. This team will probably win 1-2 games.

Saying the Raiders are a bad team is like saying LeBron has lost it when he misses his first shot of the season.  The Raiders last year had one of the best O lines in the NFL.  They just could not score when they got inside the red zone, they were the worst team in the NFL.

Now maybe they have fixed that and maybe they have not but we really won't know until they play a few more games.

I think we looked pretty good in some areas and not so good in others.  But by what some of you guys are saying we are not the least talented team in the NFL.

And btw, Jacksonville won today and everyone said they had no talent either.

In 2001 we won our first game, then lost 15 straight.  Just wait and see.

He was a bright side. Was mostly referencing the missed XP, ST penalties, and lackluster coverage on a couple returns.

I expect the ST to get better with more reps.  No preseason definitely hurt there.

I'm more wary of the defense without injecting more talent.
