Rhule v Rivera

After a short sample it feels like there are some key differences. I admire both coaches, so not trying to slight either (Rivera's last couple of years definitely were not same as his early years)

1) Seems like Rhule and staff make decent adjustments at the half to come back/stay in game - seemed like Rivera and staff got out to better starts but poor at adjustments and were always trying to hang on and not lose .

2) Rhule definitely seems to understand how game is changing and will be at the cutting edge. Rivera seemed to emphasized fundamentals not as much missed tackles/blocks.

3) Rhule seems more ready offensively, it's good to not see timeouts over and over due to not getting play off - Rivera's defense seemed more likely to cause the other team unrest and shifting plans.

It will be interesting if we keep losing to see if Rhule can keep the guys playing like Rivera did - at least in his first several years.

I am very glad Rivera is gone. He made the same mistakes over and over and two seasons in a row his teams collapsed late in the season. I mostly hated his stubbornness and inability to make in game adjustments.

I like Rhule so far. I might grow to hate him in a few years if this team still sucks after he has time to build the team (very possible).

Cam might have been able to pull these games out but I think the calls would have been worse under Ron.

That's kind of the point. A lot of fans were waiting on this team to finally get a more offensive/aggressive coach. And then they released Cam before he could play one game with Rhule.

This team wouldn't be that far away right now with a healthy Cam - LBs and offensive line.

The fake punt call from inside the 40 is without a doubt the most predictable call I’ve ever seen.

there was no excuse for that.

I’m going to give him a pass this year and most of next due to inheriting this mess and the limitations put on him by Covid.

In hindsight it was the wrong call. I don't think it was a bad call though.

I love aggressive play calling. Forget that death by a thousand cuts Rivera philosophy. Just shoot me or I'll shoot you. Stop playing games.

    • Trade up for a project was dumb, he's gonna be 25 next month. By the time you're deciding on whether he's worth the 5th year option or a big contract you're already gonna be thinking about moving on soon either way.
    • I mean this is legit AF statement....you don't spend that draft capital on a project just like you don't trade up for an injured RB either, which was done in the same draft.  That draft IMO was a necessary evil for DM to learn from his mistakes (I think he did but some may not). Also I have to mention I'm a big Coker fan and think getting him as an UDFA was obv a steal.  Coker is the better WR2 at this point as Legette and its not even debatable unfortunately.  Give him year 3 but don't expect much from him.  Continue in the offseason with adding as much talent and competition on the roster as possible including WR.  Or just trade his ass for peanuts and continue to build roster by any means.......
    • Losing him was a huge loss. Look at how the Bears went from a 5 win team to now a 11 win team. The Lions offensive line is bad this year, secondary is bad and Campbell going for it on 4th down all the time has cost them games instead of taking the Field Goals. Goff is inconsistent as well.
