Does this team have less talented players than the 2010 team?

I think that Matt Rhule is trying hard to motivate and "Coach em up". It is how he got his wins at Baylor and Temple. He is good at taking average to below average guys and have them overachieve. It works in college, but in there NFL you need actual talent. The talent that we have is youthful and lacks the experience that is needed to get the wins that will come in future years.

Yeah that ra ra preacher poo doesn’t work in the NFL.

So far our rookies outside of maybe Jeremy Chinn don’t look so hot. Defense can’t even tackle.

I will pose this..if the roster is so much worse why are the Panthers playing 100% better than the 2010 squad.

Could it be the coaching?

I know John Fox lame duck yada yada but 2010 was 60 minutes of pain every Sunday with no glimmer of hope. 2020 has not been near as dreadful.

QB is the most impactful position and Clausen was doo doo. Look at the two games Grier started last year. We scored 3 points in two games until he got hurt and Allen got a TD. Even though Allen isn’t a franchise QB there was a huge drop off to Grier.

I do understand what you're saying, but I believe the choice was two fold: First of all Teddy is a great mentor for a future QB. He's a perfect student of the game. Secondly the team has to draw at least some attention to keep fans engaged and prospective FA, and Teddy keeps them from being too big of a dumpster fire.

I don’t get that whole keep fans engaged. There appear to be a ton of fans in here engaged to see if we get the top pick. Let’s be honest, 5-11 or 4-12 gets you no extra fan engagement. We’ve lost 10 games in a row, who’s really engaged outside of people like us who post in a forum? We are the exception in the fan base. I wanted to tank, but here I am watching games and discussing the team. Casual fans have been through 10 losses and 1-15 the last two second halves, they haven’t been engaged and nothing we did got them more engaged. 0-2 start tough game on the road, no CMC, only us die hardship will watch.

On Defense, probably. But 2010 team had a historically bad offense. The field looked a mile long when they tried to get a score.  Steve Smith almost retired after that year

That’s because they had Will Grier, I mean Weinke, I mean Clausen. Peyton Manning out for the year, we want Luck, start Curtis Painter and enjoy pick 1. Same thing. Will Grier would have been the same thing. We scored 6 points in 2 games (rest was Allen in reserve) last year with DJ playing great, CMC going for 1000-1000. Heck Samuel had 750 total yards and 7 TDs but put Grier in and we couldn’t muster more than two FGs in 6 quarters with him.

Hopefully we learned you need a stable offensive line and defensive line above everything. Throw in a solid QB and he will elevate the talent around him. I think we are on track defensively with Brown, YGM, Burns and Roy as a rotational piece. Chiefs, Ravens, Saints, Packers, Patriots all have great offensive lines. The Raiders beefed up their line and are now 2-0 with a solid win against the Saints. I want Daley to get healthy and Little to get some playing time so we can see what we have in them. We should also look at extending Moton pretty soon...  Just imagine CMC behind a solid line...

Agreed, that team was laughably bad on offense.  Averaged 12.3 points per game.  This team may be less talented overall, but Teddy is miles above pickles and I’d pick this team to beat the 2010 squad.

Less talent this year vs 2010. Maybe about the same talent as 2001.
Tepper better be glad no fans are allowed in the stadium now and perhaps the rest of the year.

2001 even had better talent. Smith, Morgan, Buckner, Rucker, Moose, etc. They just had a knack for losing that year.
